Methods for removing anions from an aqueous solution include contacting the aqueous solution with an initial organic phase composition in a primary stage to form a first mixture, the initial organic phase composition including a quaternary amine and a weak organic acid; separating a nitrate-depleted raffinate from the first mixture; mixing the remaining organic phase (now containing nitrate) with a first basic solution to obtain a second mixture; separating an aqueous phase sulfate-containing scrub solution from the second mixture; mixing the remaining organic phase with a second basic solution to form a third mixture; and separating the third mixture into an aqueous phase nitrate-rich solution and a secondary organic phase composition. The secondary organic phase composition can be recycled. The raffinate, the sulfate-containing scrub solution, and the nitrate-rich solution can then be further processed.

Anion removal from waste water

A method for extracting copper from a mineral feed containing copper sulphide mineral , which involves crushing and blending the feed followed by leaching of the feed in an autoclave . The conditions in the autoclave are controlled so that the presence of oxygen at superatmospheric oxygen pressure maintains the ratio of ferrous to ferric ions at a level so as to facilitate the leaching of copper from the feed. The leaching is carried out in the presence of acid which may be itself generated by oxidising conditions in the autoclave. Further leaching is carried out in a series of tanks and after which the solids are separated from solution in a series of steps including treatment in a hydroclassifier , a clarifier and a polishing filter . Copper is extracted from the resultant leachant at a copper extraction station with a final copper product being retrieved in electrowin cells

Processing copper sulphide ores

A process for the extraction of copper from a copper sulphide containing concentrate such as chalcopyrite, involves dispersing the finely divided copper sulphide containing concentrate in an aqueous sulphuric acid solution to form a slurry; providing an effective amount of a suitable surfactant such as lignosol or quebracho; reacting with agitation the slurry and surfactant with free oxygen bearing gas in a pressure vessel at an elevated temperature to extract the copper values from the concentrate to produce the final leach solution containing dissolved copper values and a solid residue; and separating the final leach solution containing the dissolved copper values from the solid residue.

Process for the extraction of copper

The invention provides a process for recovering hydrogen cyanide from an aqueous solution by extracting the hydrogen cyanide into an organic solvent phase. The organic solvent may comprise a neutral organophosphorous compounds, such as compounds selected from the group consisting of alkyl or aryl substituted phosphates, phosphonates and phosphine oxides. In alternative embodiments the organophosphorous compound is tri-butyl phosphate, di-butyl-butyl-phosphonate or tri-alkyl phosphine oxides. The organic solvent may be diluted in an organic diluent, such as an aliphatic or kerosene-type diluent. Alternative dilutions may be used, such as 75%, 50% or 25%. In some embodiments, the pH of the aqueous solution containing dissolved cyanide may be adjusted to between 2 and 8, or between 3 and 7, or between 4 and 6. The organic solvent may be contacted following extraction with a basic aqueous solution to strip cyanide from the organic solvent into a basic aqueous cyanide strip solution. The stripped organic solvent may then be returned to the loading process, to extract HCN from fresh aqueous solution.
