A method in a network node for voice call continuity is disclosed. The network node receives, from a second network node with which a wireless device having a first session transfer number has registered, a registration notification message including a second session transfer number dynamically assigned to the wireless device by the second network node for voice call continuity. The network node stores the dynamically assigned second session transfer number. The network node receives a network query message sent in response to a mobile switching center receiving a call origination message from the wireless device, the call origination message including the first session transfer number as a destination. The network node determines that there is an active call involving the wireless device, and sends a network query response message to the mobile switching center that includes the dynamically assigned second session transfer number.

Dynamic session transfer number for voice call continuity

A method in a wireless device for voice call continuity is disclosed. The wireless device sends a register message to a network node. The wireless device has a first session transfer number. The wireless device receives a registration authorization message. The registration authorization message includes a second session transfer number for voice call continuity, the second session transfer number being dynamically assigned by the network node. The wireless device stores in memory the dynamically assigned second session transfer number.

Method, server and database for resolving local dialing plans in IMS networks

A method and mechanism to detect failure of an S102 link between an Evolved Packet Core, EPC, network based Mobility Management Entity, MME, and an Interworking System, IWS, in a Mobile Switching Center, MSC, pool deploying Circuit Switched Fallback, CSFB, for the EPC network. A heartbeat message exchange between an MME-IWS pair augments the current standards to provide a simple and direct method to monitor the application layer status of the S102 link between the EPC-based MME and the MSC pool-based IWS. Upon detecting a link failure, message flows can be quickly re-routed to another S102 link or MSC. Reverse use of an A21 Event Notification message from an IWS to MME, or a re-assigned IWS's delayed acknowledgement of an initial call-related message from an MME also augment the current standards to address IWS relocation related message-bouncing in MSC pool-based deployments of CSFB, thereby allowing efficient routing of messages.

Link failure detection and interworking system relocation in circuit switched fallback

In an IP Multimedia setting, a proxy server of a visited network receives a request for a geo-local service from a roaming user agent. The proxy server modifies the received request and forwards the modified request to the user agent's home network. The modification is such that the modified request or a related request message is routed back to the visited network from the user agent's home network, and the geo-local service requested by the roaming user agent is routed to an appropriate IMS entity in the visited network.

A Mobile Switching Center (MSC) of a CDMA telecommunications wireless network which includes a CDMA mobile station (MS), a CDMA base station (BS), a CDMA HLR, and an Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) Gateway. The MSC is capable of receiving a MS initiated USSD request from the BS, determining if the subscriber is authorized to use USSD services and if authorized constructing a MAP message containing the USSD Request which is then sent to a USSD Gateway identified by subscriber profile information received during registration. The MSC is also capable of identifying MAP messaging it receives that contains USSD messaging, constructing an IOS message that contains the USSD messaging and sending the IOS message to the BS which in turn sends it to the MS.

A call request is sent to establish a telephony session over an Internet Protocol (IP) network between an originating terminal and a destination device. A message responsive to the call request is received from a node connected to the IP network. In response to receiving the message, local generation of a comfort indicator at the originating terminal is performed.

To provide expedited ringback at an originating terminal, a call request is sent from the originating terminal to a destination device over an Internet Protocol (IP) network. Local resource reservation is performed by the originating terminal after sending the call request. A first message is received by the originating terminal prior to the originating terminal sending a second message indicating that local resource reservation has been performed, the first message for indicating that alerting is being performed at the destination device. In response to receiving the first message and determining that the local resource reservation has been performed, a ringback indicator is generated by the originating terminal.

Providing improved post-dial delay at an originating terminal

A system and method to provide call delivery to an Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network for a Mobile Directory Number (MDN) homed in a second generation (2G) wireless network, without requiring Wireless Intelligent Network (WIN) operations and associated Mobile Switching Center emulation (MSCe) translations for routing the call request. A Home Location Register (HLR) determines whether the subscriber has subscribed to the IMS services. The HLR-based subscriber profile is enhanced with new IMS-related subscriber information. Enhanced American National Standards Institute-41 (ANSI-41) Mobile Application Part (MAP) operations and a new ANSI-41 parameter allow the MSCe to re-route the call origination request from a Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) to an entry point for the IMS network based upon the new IMS-related subscriber information received from the HLR. A Domain Name Server (DNS) supports routing-related traffic distribution.

Call delivery to an IMS network for a mobile directory number homed in a 2G wireless network

A SIP header reduction protocol operating on a communication network to compress the SIP header fields on SIP control messages used to initiate a SIP communication session. The new protocol is implemented on the mobile use equipment (UE) () and P-CSCF proxy SIP server (). The prior SIGCOMP compression dictionary is used to compress those header field parameters defined by the SIGCOMP dictionary. A new 3G Dictionary is implemented with header field parameters for several wireless specific data elements and parameters necessary to access various wireless technologies and services which are missing from the SIP/SDP based SIGCOMP dictionary. Finally, an Encoding Assistant (EA) () function is implemented on the UE and P-CSCF that operates a standard encoding and decoding of SIP message header fields to reduce those SIP header fields that are dynamic over time but are essentially static in terms of most user communication. The EA parameters can be updated periodically, while the 3G and SIGCOMP dictionary are static and not updated.

SIP header reduction

A communication apparatus having a communication interface for communicating with a first remote entity, the first remote entity including a decoder capable of decoding data encoded according to a first encoding format. The communication apparatus includes a control entity operative to detect an attempt by a second remote entity to establish a TFO connection with the communication apparatus via the communication interface, for sending to the first remote entity, via the communication apparatus data encoded according to a second encoding format, different from the first encoding format, where the decoder at the first remote entity is incompatible with data encoded according to the second encoding format. When the control entity detects such an attempt, it enables a converter to convert data encoded according to the second encoding format received from the second remote entity into data encoded according to the first encoded format, and sends the data encoded according to the first encoded format to the first remote entity via the communication interface.
