A sub-assembly of a document processor that routes at least one document from an input hopper, along a document path and to an output bin is disclosed. The document processor includes a flag movably-arranged within the input hopper to/from a closed orientation and an open orientation; a rod fixed to and extending from the flag, wherein the rod includes an outer surface; a cam member including a camming surface, wherein the camming surface is communicatively-coupled to the outer surface of the rod; a driven shaft connected to the cam member, wherein the cam member further includes a one-way clutch, wherein the driven shaft extends through the one-way clutch; and a feed motor connected to the driven shaft. A method for operating the sub-assembly is also disclosed.

Methods and systems for operator intervention in a document processing system are disclosed. One possible method includes capturing images of documents within a document processing system. The method further includes executing computerized analysis of the images to establish an acceptability determination regarding the images. The method further includes manually reviewing the computer analysis of the images to confirm or override the acceptability determination.

An automated document processing system is disclosed. The system includes a magnetic character reader located along a path of travel of a document. The system also includes a first image scanner located after the magnetic character reader along the path of travel, the first image scanner configured to capture an image of a first side of the document. The system further includes an endorser located after the magnetic character reader along the path of travel, where the endorser is configured to print an endorsement on at least one side of the document. The system also includes a second image scanner located after the endorser along the path of travel, the second image scanner configured to capture an image of the at least one side of the document endorsed by the endorser.

An improved document feeder flag assembly is disclosed. The improved document feeder flag assembly allows single handed, on the fly loading of a document sorter. A method for loading a document sorting machine with a single hand, while the method of operating the machine is also disclosed. The document feeder flag assembly includes a baseplate and a pivot post attached to the baseplate. Further, the assembly includes a flag arm having a first side and a second side, the first side of the flag arm is attached to the pivot post. There is also a feeder flag having a first side and a second side, the first side of the feeder flag being attached to a second side of the flag arm. The document feeder flag assembly also includes a resistance device attached between the feeder flag and the flag arm.

An automated document processing apparatus comprising a detector; a plurality of pockets; and a pocket selector gate assembly which causes a document being processed by the apparatus to be routed to one of the plurality of pockets based on information read from the document by the detector, the route of the document being determined by the position of a pocket selector gate, the pocket selector gate position being controlled by a motor which is mechanically coupled to the pocket selector gate, the mechanical coupling being such that, when the pocket selector gate is in a first position, the pocket selector gate is locked in place even after the motor has been deenergized. The mechanical coupling may be achieved by way of a link arm and pin, the pin mating with the link arm and engaging a mating slot of the pocket selector gate.

A pinch roller assembly useable in a document processing system is disclosed. The pinch roller assembly includes a pinch roller housing movable in a direction substantially perpendicular to a path of travel of documents. The pinch roller assembly also includes a pinch roller rotatably mounted to the pinch roller housing and located adjacent to the path of travel of documents, and a biasing member arranged to exert a biasing force on a deflection element. The deflection element directs the biasing force onto the pinch roller housing.

An automated document processing system including a printing system is disclosed. The printing system includes a carriage mountable adjacent to a path of travel of a printable surface. The system also includes a print cartridge housing configured to hold a print cartridge having a printing aperture oriented toward the path of travel of the printable surface. The print cartridge housing is mounted to the chassis and moveable in a direction normal to the path of travel of the printable surface. The system further includes a clean and park station pivotally mounted to the chassis and capable of pivoting across the printing aperture of the print cartridge to wipe and cover the printing aperture. In the system disclosed, the print cartridge housing and the clean and park station are moveable between a printing position and a parked position.

A compact, desktop document processor for capturing data and images from checks and other financial and payment-related documents includes a modular base unit. The modular base unit performs processing actions on financial and payment-related documents. The modular base unit is configured to operate in a teller station apparatus and is configured to operate in a back counter apparatus. The base unit includes an interface for connecting to an add-on component to match the base unit to workflow requirements. The base unit operates as the teller station apparatus when a hand feeder component is connected to the base unit at the add-on component interface. The base unit operates as the back counter apparatus when an automatic feeder component is connected to the base unit at the add-on component interface.

A system for feeding and transporting documents includes a feeder stage and a transport stage. The feeder stage includes a feeder and a hopper assembly. The hopper floor carries the document stack, and includes a flag providing a force to move the documents along the hopper floor toward the feeder and to feed a document with a presentation force. A vibration source means vibrate the hopper floor such that the hopper floor vibration is stronger at the far end and weaker at the near end to cause a dynamic weight of the document stack to be reduced through vibration, particularly at the hopper floor far end when the document stack is large so as to reduce variation in the presentation force at the feeder.

A printing mechanism requires ribbon spools to be locked in place radially, and includes a pivoting ribbon tension arm that must be pivoted out of its normal operating position when ribbon is to be replaced. A ribbon spool lock assembly includes a rotating locking hub on the side of the printing mechanism. The rotating locking hub includes a locking feature that protrudes into the printing mechanism to radially lock the ribbon spool when the locking hub is in a locked position. A pivoting lock arm is provided for pivoting the locking hub into an unlocked position in which the locking feature is disengaged from the ribbon spool.

A system and method for feeding and transporting documents are provided. The system includes a feeder stage including a hopper, a feeder and a separator. The hopper includes a hopper wall extending toward the feeder with a waterfall step along the hopper wall and with the stack of documents engaging the hopper wall including the waterfall step to form a pocket area over a limited distance extending from the waterfall step along the hopper wall toward the feeder. A photo edge detector located in the pocket area faces the stack of documents such that when a feeding document trailing edge passes the waterfall step, the trailing edge is detected by the photo edge detector while in the pocket area. The system further includes a transport stage downstream of the feeder stage for receiving the fed documents.

Method and system for feeding and transporting documents

An apparatus for positioning magnetically coded substrate relative to a read head that optimally positions the substrate against the read head. A beam arm is sized and formed to transmit a force to a contact head located at a first end of the beam arm. The contact head is formed by a recessed wedge defined by a lead-in and lead-out, both making contact with the substrate, transmitting a force at first location and second location of substrate, thereby flexing the substrate about the read head. The contact head maintains the position of the substrate in the active reading area of the read head, thus maximizing reading capability. Moreover, the apparatus is formed from a material entirely non-magnetic, having a low coefficient of friction, flexibility and a good resistance to wear.
