Generally, the present disclosure is directed to wellbore tubular running systems and methods of their use. In one illustrative embodiment, a tubular running system is disclosed that includes, among other things, a torque frame, a main shaft extending through a top opening of the torque frame and rotatable by rotation apparatus, slip setting apparatus connected to the torque frame and including a levelling beam and a plurality of slip assemblies, each of the slip assemblies connected independently and pivotably to the levelling beam, and movement apparatus connected to the levelling beam for moving the slip assemblies in unison with respect to a tubular projecting into the torque frame.

Tubular running tool and methods of use

A system for coupling a pipe segment to a pipe string is provided that includes a top drive assembly having an output shaft; and a pipe running tool coupled to the top drive assembly and rotatable by the output shaft of the top drive assembly. The pipe running tool includes an internal gripper for insertion within an internal diameter of the pipe segment and a tapered slip cone section, which slidably receives corresponding tapered surfaces of a plurality of slips, such that a vertical force on the slips causes the slips to move radially outwardly into gripping engagement with the internal diameter of the pipe segment, and wherein the vertical force applied to the slips is sufficient to allow the gripping engagement of the slips with the internal diameter of the pipe segment to transmit a torque from the top drive output shaft to the pipe segment.

A system for coupling a pipe segment to a pipe string is provided that includes a top drive assembly having a threaded output shaft; and a pipe running tool threadingly coupled to the threaded output shaft of the top drive assembly such that the primary load of the pipe running tool is supported by the threads of the output shaft of the top drive assembly, and wherein the pipe running tool is rotatable by the output shaft and further includes a pipe engaging portion for grippingly engaging the pipe segment sufficient to transmit a torque from the top drive output shaft to the pipe segment.

A system for measuring desired drilling parameters of a pipe string during an oil and gas well drilling operation is provided that includes a top drive assembly; a pipe running tool engageable with the pipe string and coupled to the top drive assembly to transmit translational and rotational forces from the top drive assembly to the pipe string; and one or more measurement devices mounted to the pipe running tool for measuring the desired drilling parameters of the pipe string during the oil and gas well drilling operation.

An oil and gas well drilling system is provided that includes a top drive assembly having an output shaft; and a pipe running tool having a top drive extension shaft connected to the top drive output shaft and engageable with a pipe string to transmit translational and rotational forces from the top drive assembly to the pipe string, wherein the pipe running tool further includes a cementing pipe connected to the top drive extension shaft and having a fluid passageway which receives cement during a cementing operation.

A triple-valve internal blow out preventer having unitary construction is provided, each valve including a tubular assembly having a central passageway with upper and lower seats mounted therein. A ball is rotatably received between the upper and lower seats and includes an external surface and a central opening, wherein the central opening may include an undercut. A protective coating may also be applied to both the external surface and the undercut of the ball to increase the durability of each of the valves.

An internal blow out preventer is provided that includes a ball valve including a tubular assembly having a central passageway with upper and lower seats mounted therein. A ball is rotatably received between the upper and lower seats and includes an external surface and a central opening, wherein the central opening includes an undercut. A protective coating is applied to both the external surface and the undercut of the ball.

An oil or gas well slip system is provided that includes a first movable member having an interactive contact surface and a second movable member having a mating interactive contact surface for slidable engagement with the interactive contact surface of the first movable member. The first and second movable members are each comprised of a first material. A second material, compositionally different from the first material, is attached to the interactive contact surface of either the first or the second movable member.

Non-seize material attachment for a drill slip system

A rotary seal assembly for a rotary support table for use in drilling systems and the like to provide pressurized fluid to a rotary slip assembly disposed within the rotary support table is provided. The rotary seal assembly is designed to be coupled to an existing rotary support table which is used to rotate a drill string, and includes a powered slip that is powered into an engaged position to securely engage a pipe segment, for example, a casing segment. The rotary seal assembly generally comprises a ribbon of expandable material having an outer surface in fluid communication with a source of pressurized fluid, and an inner surface cooperative with a rotary housing, the rotary seal having a plurality of openings capable of communicating fluid between said outer and inner surfaces, wherein the outer seal surface has a surface area greater than the inner surface such that when the pressurized fluid is conducted to the outer surface of the seal a differential pressure between the outer and inner surfaces is created such that the inner surface of the seal is expanded to engage the rotary housing and form an annular fluid duct providing fluid communication between the pressurized fluid source and the rotary housing. A method of operating a rotary table and powered slip assembly utilizing the rotary slip assembly of the current invention is also provided.

A rotary slip for supporting a drill string having a plurality of slip segments connected to define an opening for insertion of the drill string, wherein each slip segment comprises a head region, a toe region, and an inner radial surface axially extending between the head and toe regions, and wherein the inner radial surface of each slip segment comprises a circumferential groove. A plurality of axially aligned drill string gripping inserts are attached to each slip segment between the head region and the circumferential groove, wherein each insert comprises a gripping surface for contacting the drill string. A load ring is disposed within the circumferential groove of each slip element, the load ring comprising at least one securing element which is engaged by one of the plurality of axially aligned inserts to secure the load ring within the circumferential groove.

An iron roughneck has a pair of upper jaws carrying pipe gripping dies for gripping tool joints. The jaws have recesses formed on each side of the pipe gripping dies to receive spinning rollers. By positioning the spinning rollers in the upper jaws at the same level as pipe gripping dies, the spinning rollers are able to engage the pipe closer to the lower jaws and thus can act on the tool joint rather than on the pipe stem.

An oil or gas well slip system is provided having a slip bowl with an interactive contact surface and a slip assembly having a mating interactive contact surface for slidable engagement with the slip bowl interactive contact surface, wherein the slip bowl and the slip assembly are each comprised of a first material. A second material is attached to the interactive contact surface of either the slip bowl or the slip assembly, wherein the second material is compositionally different from the first material to prevent cold welding between the slip bowl and the slip assembly and wherein the second material has little or no tendency to dissolve into the atomic structure of the first material.
