A system and method are provided which enable overriding a custom color callout in a print job. Provision is made for a user to associate a unique ID with a custom color callout in a print job, e.g., during generation of the print job or at the printer. The custom color callout provides for a part of the print job to be rendered with a specific custom colorant, e.g., by identifying the name of the custom colorant. The unique ID is associated, in memory, with a custom colorant station of a print engine, independent of any custom colorant that may be housed in the custom colorant station. The method further includes identifying the custom colorant station of the print engine associated with the unique ID and sending the print job in a format for printing to the print engine for printing the part of the print job with a first custom colorant housed in the identified custom colorant station.

Beam strength and curl characteristics of sheets of print media change based not only on paper weight, but also on environmental conditions, such as humidity. Printers herein include a printing engine positioned to receive sheets of print media from a storage container. Sheet transport elements are positioned to transport the sheets from the storage through the printing engine. A sensor contacts one of the sheets, and the sensor detects a beam strength and curl characteristics signature profile of the sheet tested. Then, a processor (that is electrically connected to the sensor and the sheet transport elements) adjusts how the sheet transport elements contact the sheets (adjusts the angle, speed of, and force applied by, the sheet transport elements) based on the beam strength and curl characteristics signature profile.

A printer compensates for printing errors occurring during production of the layers for the formation of an object in a three-dimensional printer. The printer includes an optical sensor that generates data corresponding to edges of each layer of the object after each layer is printed. A system and method for automatically rendering labeling service prints with print engine parameters. An auto-labeling application can be configured in association with a print engine controller for labeling the service prints with the print engine parameters via a built-in marker integrated with a fault multi-function device. A portable inline marker can also be separately attached to a baffle assembly of the fault device and connected to the print engine controller via a connector in order to receive the print engine parameters from the print engine controller. A setup routine configured with the auto-labeling application can be employed to customize the service print labels in a modular format and the parameters can be appended to each other based on the information required to troubleshoot the fault multi-function device. Such an approach effectively provides labeling of the service prints with enhanced service proficiency and customer satisfaction and reduces service time with respect to the fault multi-function device.

Systems and methods are described that facilitate automatically and uniformly depositing a marking material on transfer assist blade (TAB) petals to improve TAB pressure profile accuracy. A TAB liftoff timing value is adjusted in non-volatile memory (NVM) to delay TAB liftoff beyond a trailing edge of a page on which an oversized (in the process direction) image being printed. Toner deposited on a photoreceptor belt beyond the trailing edge of the page is picked up by the TAB petals once the trailing edge of the page has passed the TAB. The TAB is then disengaged and re-engaged against a backside of a next page, where the TAB petals deposit the uniformly acquired toner to generate the TAB pressure profile.

Method for assessing transfer pressure uniformity

An imaging forming device and a constrained transfer assist blade (CTAB) that provides for faster printing speeds, with an improved image-to-edge border specification is disclosed. An upper blade layer constrains pressure blades towards a lifter assembly in order to prevent the lower lying pressure blades from delaminating and a wear layer is formed around outer edges of the blade. Faster response times and improved trail edge flip defects as well as printing closer to the sheet edges is enabled.

Constrained transfer assist blade (CTAB) for improved print to edge performance

As set forth herein, a reusable transfer assist blade (TAB) assembly includes a replaceable blade assembly that is locked into position between a clamp assembly and an extruded portion of the TAB assembly. When the blade assembly requires replacement, spring tables on the clam assembly are biased upward to release the clamp assembly from the extruded portion, and the clamp assembly is rotated about a clamp tab-clamp pocket interface at the top of the TAB assembly. The blade assembly is removed and replaced, the clamp assembly is rotated back into position against the extruded portion, and the spring tabs re-engage interlocking features on the extruded portion to lock the replacement blade in position. The expensive extruded portion and clamp assembly are thus reused and the inexpensive blade assembly is discarded or recycled.

A latching assembly for mounting a printhead to a plate assembly of a printing machine includes a first elongated actuator and a second elongated actuator defining a bore to slidably receive the first actuator. A first spring is disposed between the heads of the first and second actuators, while a second spring is disposed between the second actuator and the printhead to exert a clamping force. A cam mechanism is defined between the plate assembly and the ends of the actuators that is configured to draw the head of the first actuator toward the plate assembly upon rotation of the first actuator and to independently draw the head of the second actuator toward the plate assembly upon rotation of said second actuator. Movement of said first actuator exerts an initial clamping force while movement of the second actuator produces a final clamping force on the printhead.

An electrophotographic marking apparatus and an automatic method for automatically scanning and correcting TAB pressure non-uniformity using a cross-process uniformity controller and a closed loop system. The TAB is contacted with an image on a photoreceptor surface to leave its imprint or footprint on the image, which are analyzed for TAB performance and pressure. This method uses a CPUC full width array in conjunction with a software version for assessing TAB performance. This method continuously monitors the TAB performance during the running of a marking apparatus.

Method for automatically correcting transfer pressure non-uniformity using the cross process uniformity

According to aspects of the embodiments, an apparatus and method is proposed to detect nip width by use of at least one piezoelectric (PZT) crystal embedded into a roll at both the inboard and outboard ends. A piezoelectric (PZT) crystal generates a charge when subjected to a load and when the load is released. The PZT generate signal is channeled to the ends of the roller such as with a brush contact to be processed and used within machine control. The duration measure from application and released of the load is indicative of the dwell time and the amplitude PZT generate signal is a function of the pressure. The time and amplitude of the PZT signal can be calibrated to correlate directly to nip width or pressure and tracked in machine control.
