Various methods and systems are provided for electrokinetic dewatering of suspensions such as, e.g., phosphatic clay. In one example, among others, a system for continuous dewatering includes a cake formation zone including a first anode and a first cathode each extending across a first portion of a separation chamber; a cake dewatering zone including a second anode and a second cathode; an inlet configured to supply a dilute feed suspension comprising solids suspended in water to the cake formation zone; and a conveying belt extending between the first anode and the first cathode and between the second anode and the second cathode. A first electric field between the first anode and the first cathode forms a cake on the conveying belt by consolidating the solids, and a second electric field between the second anode and the second cathode dewaters the cake on the conveying belt.

Continuous electrokinetic dewatering of phosphatic clay suspensions

Energy harvesting systems and devices are provided that harvest energy from external asynchronous force impulses using fluidic force transfer of the external force impulses to a plurality of compliant piezoelectric layers that seal a corresponding plurality of inner cavities. Each inner cavity can contain a compressible gas. Direct fluidic force transfer can be accomplished via a compressible or incompressible fluid between an external cover and the compliant piezoelectric layers.

Asynchronous fluidic impulse strain-based energy harvesting system

Systems and methods are provided for establishing and securing a foundation in a substrate. For example, in one embodiment, a pump conveys a first fluid (e.g., water) through a pile member to produce an elongate opening in a substrate, which allows the pile member to be advanced into the substrate. After the pile member has been advanced into the elongate opening in the substrate, a second fluid (e.g., fluidized concrete) is conveyed out of openings on the side (and the bottom) of the pile member to substantially secure the pile member in the elongate opening defined in the substrate.

Various embodiments of the invention comprise devices, systems, and methods for estimating the rate at which rock, soil or any self-supporting material erode. Particular embodiments of the invention relate to devices and systems that subject a stationary soil or rock sample to shear stresses by rotating fluid about the soil or rock sample to simulate the effects of flowing fluids on the soil or rock sample. In various embodiments, the devices and systems include a torque cell unit and clutch assembly.

Apparatus for estimating the rate of erosion and methods using the same

A vehicle safety and control system provides early warning and includes a network including a plurality of remotely located modules disposed along a vehicle pathway. Each module is communicably connected to at least one of the other modules. The modules include a measurement system including at least one sensor for obtaining sensor data. The sensor data provides position and velocity data for objects proximate thereto. The modules also include an illuminated display having a plurality of observable distinct states, the observable states including states relating to the sensor data.
