An electronic book distribution system includes electronic devices that reset their passcodes after specified authentication failures. The passcodes of an individual electronic device is reset to a value that is generated using a predefined function of a randomly generated support code. The support code is displayed to the user, and the user is instructed to contact a support service in order to obtain the new passcode. The support service independently authenticates the user, calculates the new device passcode using the same predefined function used by the electronic device, and provides the new passcode to the user.

Assigning new passcodes to electronic devices

A digital device and a method of processing screensaver the same are disclosed in this disclosure. According to the present invention, a digital device includes a manager configured to manage a window of the digital device and to generate and transmit first status data to a controller depending on whether the digital device is in a first status, a resource processor configured to manage and assign resources of the digital device, to receive status data and size data from launched applications and to configure and temporarily store application data for screensaver processing, and the controller configured to launching of one or more applications, to transmit a request to execute the screensaver to the resource processor if the first status data is received from the manger, to transmit a control command to a screensaver application based on a response of the resource processor according to the request, and to control the screensaver, wherein the resource processor returns a response to the request to execute the screensaver based on resource data about resource assignment and use of the digital device and the temporarily stored application data according to the request of the controller.

A digital device and a method of processing screensaver thereof are disclosed in this disclosure. According to the present invention, a digital device for processing a screensaver includes a manager configured to manage a display window of the digital device and to generate and transmit first status data to a controller, a processor configured to collect application data including format data and reference data, and the controller configured to control to launch one or more applications, to transmit a signal requesting application data, to receive the requested application data, to transmit a control command to a screensaver application based on the received application data, and to execute the screensaver.

The techniques disclosed herein allow a user to synchronize the playing and displaying of digital content on an electronic device. The device may render a first portion of digital content so it may be displayed. The device may also play a segment of the digital content as audio using text to speech software. The device may also render a second portion of digital content for display depending on whether the position of the last word read is greater than the last position in the first portion of digital content.

Synchronizing the playing and displaying of digital content

A sharing service receives a request to store a media item stored on an electronic book reader device for sharing with one or more other content rendering devices. In response, the sharing service associates a pass phrase with the request. The sharing service then provides the media item to those devices (e.g., eBook reader devices) that provide the pass phrase to the sharing service within a predetermined amount of time.

A processing device receives a schedule from a server, the schedule identifying delivery times for a set of items associated with the user device. At each delivery time, the processing device contacts the server to obtain one or more items from the server in accordance with the schedule.

A quiescent doze mode permits significant reductions in power consumption and dissipation by electronic devices while idle without producing adverse latencies to users. Device drivers communicate predictions as to future use of their coupled devices with a kernel. The kernel may then enter a quiescent doze mode comprising gating clocks on the processor and peripherals, disabling interrupts, and executing a wait for interrupt. Dynamically increasing timer interrupt intervals to significant fractions or multiples of a second further increases the percentage of time the device remains in quiescent doze mode.

Power consumption while in a low power suspend mode is enhanced by placing a portion of suspend and resume instructions into internal rewriteable memory, such as internal random access memory ('IRAM'). During entry into suspend, control is transferred from instructions stored in an external memory to instructions stored within the internal rewriteable memory. These instructions are configured to reduce power consumption of the external memory by reducing a slew rate, drive strength, and so forth. Upon awakening from suspend, the instructions within the internal rewriteable memory place the external memory back to an operational state and control passes back to the instructions stored within external memory.

A low-power mode for interfaces, such as secure digital input/output (SDIO) interfaces, is described. The low-power mode provides significant power savings while allowing rapid resumption of data transfer on the interface. The SDIO low-power mode gates an SDIO clock and transitions the SDIO bus to a 1-bit mode. One line of the bus carries the 1-bit data while another line carries interrupts from an SDIO peripheral. Normal data transmission results in enabling the SDIO clock and setting the bus set to the 4-bit mode.

Secure digital input/output low-power mode

A server creates a schedule for each of multiple user devices based on a set of items associated with a corresponding user device, and allows each user device to obtain associated items in accordance with the schedule.

An electronic device in a low power mode, for example an eBook reader device, may use a fast awake module to quickly update a display. The electronic device may receive an interrupt, begin to awaken, present a cached pre-rendered image on the display, and may resume the low power mode or pre-render additional images to refill the cache before resuming the low power mode.
