The invention generally relates to a facility wide sorting and/or sequencing system for improving product processing operations and, more particularly, to a facility wide system and related functionality for simultaneously sorting and sequencing mixed mail pieces such as, for example, flats and letter mail pieces. The flats and letter mail pieces are placed in frames so that all types of mail pieces can be sorted and/or sequenced simultaneously through merging and diverting a stream of filled trays into and out of different streams at a full or substantially full transport speed.

Facility wide mixed mail sorting and/or sequencing system and components and methods thereof

Systems, methods and apparatus for winding conductive wires for a stator of an electric motor. In one embodiment, a hysteretic tensioning apparatus is utilizing to substantially stabilize tension in a conductive wire supplied to a winding machine. The hysteretic tensioning apparatus includes a support member, a brake member, and four idler arms. The brake member is rotatably mounted to the brake member and configured to engage the conductive wire. The idler arms each are spring mounted to the support member and also are configured to engage the conductive wire. The conductive wire is extended across the support member so that it extends between adjacent idler arms and the brake and is inserted into the winding machine.

Systems, methods and apparatus for winding conductive wires for a stator of an electric motor

A method for facilitating the reduction of transmitted motor noise using a mounting system in a frame. The mounting system includes a motor assembly having an end bell, a mounting bracket including a brace, a plurality of attachment openings, a plurality of leaf springs attached to the brace and an anchor device attached to each leaf spring. Each anchor device includes a fastener opening and a grommet. The leaf springs and grommets are configured to filter and damp noise transmitted from the motor to the frame.

The sealant installer is pulled along the roadbed over the joint to be sealed and the installer wheel engaging the road surface on opposite sides of the joint slot pulls sealant by operation of teeth engaging the sealant through a lubricated feed chute which reduces the cross sectional width of the sealant to a size smaller than the width of the slot in the joint. Timing is assured without bunching or stretching of the sealant.

A strainer assembly for straining a liquid, such as paint, to be poured into a container includes a tubular strainer support having a continuous imperforate side wall structure with an open top, an open bottom, and an annular exterior flange for removably resting on the open top of the container for holding the strainer support in an upright position above the container. A filter medium, such as a mesh filtering cloth, is secured to the top of the support for holding it in the interior of the support above the container. Paint is poured through the filtering cloth to filter the paint before it passes into the container. In one embodiment, the strainer support includes an annular ridge recessed in the exterior side wall of the support adjacent the open top of the support to provide a second means for mounting the strainer support in an inverted position over a smaller-sized container. A further embodiment comprises a molded plastic support with integrally molded clips that can be broken off and used to hold the filter cloth in place. In a further embodiment, the strainer support is of stackable configuration in which an annular shoulder projecting into the upper interior portion of the support is adapted to engage the top lip of an identical tubular support when the two supports are stacked to provide an interference fit that avoids the tubular supports sticking together when positioned in a tall stack.

A surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) assembly comprises a radiant energy source for directing a beam of radiant energy toward a target microbase. The target microbase includes a substrate, a roughened surface layer contiguously disposed on the substrate, and a sample-adsorption surface layer contiguously disposed on the first roughened layer. The sample-adsorption surface layer is effective to enhance a scattered Raman signal intensity for adsorbates adjacent the sample-adsorption surface layer by a factor of greater than 10.sup.6 times. The sample-adsorption surface includes a plurality of submicron needles having a length of at least 3500 angstroms and a width of at least 500 angstroms. A method for manufacturing the target microbase comprises the steps of contiguously depositing on a substrate the first roughened layer having a deposited thickness of at least 1700 angstroms. A further metallic layer is then contiguously grown on the first roghened layer to form needles modeled as prolate spheroids having a length of at least 3500 angstroms and a width of at least 500 angstroms. In a specific embodiment, the needles are silver microneedles deposited from a vapor with a closed chamber and a vacuum pressure of at least 10.sup.-4 torr and at an evaporation rate from 2 to 20 angstroms per second. The silver microneedles are formed at a deposited thickness of at least 4000 angstroms as determined by a standard quartz thickness monitor.

Improved apparatus for withdrawing useful energy from a fluent medium, the apparatus comprising supports with tension members spanning the distance between them, foils distributed along the tension member spans, and circular members capable of rotating freely with the tension members, power being taken off the apparatus through fewer than all of the circular members.

Foil elements capable of generating lift forces and converting such forces into rotational movement of a body are suspended and submerged in a flowing stream or fluid current. Control means are provided to cyclically regulate the angles of attack of the foil elements in relation to the fluid current and to maintain substantially constant lift forces throughout a rotational cycle. Power take-off and/or generating means is included in the system.
