Briefly, the above and further objects of the present invention are realized by providing a portable wireless communication unit having an electronic communication device with an integrally formed U-shaped frame housing mounted externally thereto. A power pack for supplying electrically power to the communication device, is adapted to be mounted removably latchably within the frame housing. The power pack includes an apparel clip mounted externally to one of the power pack faces for enabling the communication unit to be supported from the wearing apparel of a user. A resilient spring finger disposed on the power pack is latchably received within a groove disposed in the frame housing, to retain releasably, the power pack in a confronting relationship within the frame. An integrally formed flange forming part of the power pack, cooperates with an elongated slit-like groove in the frame housing to facilitate the proper alignment of the power pack when received within the frame housing.

Portable wireless communication unit and method of using same

The optical transceiver includes a headset antenna assembly, which is adapted to be worn on the head of the user, and which is connected electrically by a cable to a transceiver unit adapted to be worn on the belt of the user. The headset antenna assembly includes a set of alternating light emitting diodes and photosensitive diodes which are disposed on the antenna assembly to transmit and receive optical signals about a substantially 360 degree radial axis. The light emitting diodes are inclined upwardly from a horizontal plane to help avoid obstructions. Baffles are disposed between the diodes to reduce feedback interface, and a circuit in the transceiver unit discriminates against background light.

Remote infrared transceiver and method of using same

A communication headset has an earpiece assembly mounted on one end of an arcuate headband having a single-piece integral, unitary construction and a resilient composition. The earpiece assembly includes an earmuff which engages a user's ear and which receives a speaker and speaker holder. The speaker holder is mounted rotatably to an interface module which in turn is mounted to a microphone module. An end cap engages the interface module and the microphone module. The mounting structure for attaching the microphone module to the interface module enables free 360.degree. rotational movement of the microphone module relative to the interface module about a central axis transverse to the interface module. A temple piece is disposed on the opposite end of the headband for engaging the user's temple. The inventive method for making the headband of the headset includes the steps of forming a rigid outer band member by flowing molten thermoplastic material into a mold, and curing the molten material to form a rigid, springy outer band member; transferring the outer band member to another mold; and flowing molten thermoplastic material into said another mold into engagement with the members, and then curing the molten material to form a cushiony inner member fused to the outer member.
