In an electrostatic device for the gating of electromagnetic radiation in response to an electrical signal, including a rod shaped fixed electrode and a resilient variable electrode sheet with a film of insulation interposed therebetween. The variable electrode sheet is pressed into a groove in a base plate. The fixed electrode is mounted in the groove over the variable electrode. The assembly of this simple device requires a minimum of noncritical steps.

Electrostatic device

An elapsed time indicator includes an electrolytic timing cell in series connection with a resistor, which series circuit may be connected to a D.C. voltage. The cell is comprised of an aluminum can containing a liquid electrolyte with an aluminum anode immersed therein. During operation an aluminum oxide film is grown on the surfaces of the anode, the film thickness and resistance increasing with time. The voltage dropped across the cell of any instant is employed as an indication of the accumulated elapsed time during which the D.C. voltage has been connected to the circuit.

Elapsed time indicator and electrolytic timer cell

Each of at least four electrolytic capacitor packages contains a convolutely wound valve-metal foil capacitor section having package leads connected to tabs that contact the foils in a central region thereof. The package leads extend from one face of each package, and are threaded through holes in a double-sided printed wiring board that serves as a stripline. The anode leads are connected to one metal face of the stripline and the cathode leads to the other, the metal on each face of the stripline covering a major portion of the insulating board. This combination of simple centrally connected foil-type capacitors being connected by means of very short leads to a stripline provides a low impedance multiple capacitor assembly having good high frequency performance and low cost.
