A door closing system for subsequent installation on an automatic sliding door of an elevator car is coupled, at floor stops, via cams and couplings with the hoistway door and is opened and closed together therewith, wherein the closing system prohibits opening of the elevator door from the inside of the car when the car is between two floors, i.e., outside the door opening zone of a floor, wherein a rocker mechanism is affixed to a fixed or movable cam of the clutch and coupling mechanism of the door, the rocker mechanism being tilted by coupler brackets of the hoistway door during normal operation of the door within the door opening zone and, via a transfer means, removes a locking pawl from a hook retainer and thus mechanically frees the door for opening, with the rocker mechanism not being actuatable outside of the door opening zone and blocking the car door via the locking pawl that is kept in a mechanically interlocked position via a compression spring.

Door closing system

An apparatus for attaching a guide rail to a girder in an elevator shaft wall provides for vertical displacement of the guide rail relative to the walls of the elevator shaft. The apparatus includes a U-shaped intermediate plate of corrosion-proof metal positioned between the side surfaces of the flange of the guide rail and a U-shaped support bracket. The support bracket, the intermediate plate and the guide rail flange are held against the girder by a longer leg of a U-shaped rail clamp having a shorter leg attached to the girder. The friction coefficient between the side surfaces of the flange of the guide rail and the U-shaped intermediate plate is greater than the friction coefficient between the intermediate plate and the support bracket, so that when the guide rail is displaced vertically, the support bracket will slide on the intermediate plate.

Apparatus for attaching elevator guide rails to elevator shaft walls

The load measuring apparatus is arranged at an elevator car and detects the car load brought about by passengers and/or goods transported by the elevator car. An upper crossbeam together with vertically extending supports and a lower crossbeam forms a support frame suspended at traction cables and moves within an elevator shaft along suitable guide rails. A floor frame mounted on isolation pads at the lower crossbeam carries the elevator car. At the roof of the elevator car there is centrally arranged a reference plate member which is part of the load measuring apparatus. A proximity sensor centrally arranged at the upper crossbeam has a predetermined frontal spacing from the reference plate member in the no-load condition of the elevator car. When the elevator car carries a load this predetermined frontal spacing increases as a function of compression of the isolation pads. The proximity sensor then generates an electrical signal or potential which is dependent upon the momentarily prevailing frontal spacing of the sensor from the reference plate member.

Load measuring apparatus for an elevator car

A safety apparatus includes a safety device and a centrifugal force speed governor for preventing overspeed conditions of an elevator car in both the downward direction and the upward direction. A bracket attached to the elevator car slidably retains a shaft at right angle to a guide rail attached to an elevator shaft wall. A U-shaped frame is attached to an end of the shaft and rotatably carries a running wheel. A compression spring extends over the shaft between the bracket and the frame to bias the running wheel against the web of the guide rail. On each side of the running wheel, a pair of release levers are rotatably supported to rotate during travel of the car in normal operation. In response to an overspeed condition, the release levers pivot into engagement with a pair of stationary ratchet wheels which are connected with a pair of actuating levers. The ratchet wheels are rotated by the running wheel which movement rotates the actuating levers. The actuating levers each move a release arm and one of the levers is connected to an actuating rod, which in turn is in connected to a release arm of another safety device on the car. The release arms extend into a wedge box of the safety device to actuate wedge-shaped jaws to engage the guide rail. For resetting the safety apparatus, the elevator car is restarted after a safety stop in the opposite direction of travel.

Speed governor safety device for stopping an elevator car

An electro-mechanical elevator hoistway door interlock which includes an electrical switch mounted adjacent to a hoistway door jamb having a pair of spaced pivotable contact actuatable from first to second positions by a bridging contact carrier by the associated hatch door. The bridging contact pivots the spaced pivotable contacts in opposite rotational directions as they are actuated between the two positions, providing a contact wiping action during each engagement and disengagement. Springs bias the pivotable contacts towards their first positions, and carry current in an active electrical circuit when the pair of spaced pivotable contacts are actuated by the bridging contact.

Elevator hoistway door interlock

An electric meter particularly characterized by a small number of moving parts and simplified assembly by virtue of fixed cooperating locating surfaces on the elements and sub-assemblies of the meter. A magnetic circuit including a yoke and magnet are constructed to snap into an insulating base in a predetermined position on the base. A coil assembly initially including integral elements for connection of pivot bearings or taut bands is accurately positioned for rotation on the supporting base by inserting the assembly into the base. Cooperating locating surfaces provide for accurate predetermined positioning of the axis of rotation of the coil relative to the magnetic circuit. Additional features of the meter construction reside in a direct gear drive between a zero adjust element and zero adjust knob mounted in a cover for the meter, a unique base, casing, and cover which snap together, a coil support form of unique construction and which includes motion limiting elements which limit the permissible extent of movement of the coil in the event of shock or impact to positions well within the elastic limit of the supports which mount the coil for rotation, a unique mode of terminating the end connections for the coil without the need for stripping insulation, a unique mounting arrangement for the assembled meter, a unique rear mounting scale plate which provides for easily replacing scale plates to meet the needs of the user of the meter, a meter movement of a single size adapted to be used with casings and scales of various sizes whereby the number of different parts required to form meters of different sizes is maintained at a minimum, a unique insulating material base with flexibility to permit expanding the base during assembly of the meter, and sub-assemblies, components, and elements which can be assembled in only one position and orientation to assure proper assembly of the meter.

Instrument moving element with severable bridge

An electrical device such as a panel meter with a body including an abutment, is inserted through an opening in a panel with the abutment on one side of the panel, and is secured to the panel with a nut plate on the other side of the panel. The body of the meter has plural teeth, discontinuous around the periphery of the body and the teeth extend from opposite sides of the body. The nut plate has an opening with flexible sides to enable snapping the nut plate over the body and teeth to a position abutting the panel to clamp the meter to the panel. Portions of the opening in the nut plate are enlarged so that moving the nut plate to a position in which the body teeth are adjacent the enlarged portions of the opening releases the nut to permit immediate and rapid removal of the meter from the panel. There are several teeth at each side of the body to enable mounting and securing the meter in panels of substantially different thicknesses. Spacers on a front face of the nut plate permit the resilient sides of the nut plate to be snapped over the meter body teeth close to the panel while spacing the nut plate from the panel so the nut plate exerts a bias or pull on the meter which maintains the meter firmly in position on the panel, irrespective of the thickness of the panel.

Panel mounting for electrical device

A moving coil instrument with a unique base of nonmagnetic sheet metal construction so arranged that sides of the base can flex to receive and clampingly retain a magnetic circuit, without causing movement of end portions of the base which support the moving coil for pivotal movement. Projections of a casing cooperate with circular mounting ears on the sides of the base to exert an inward force to assist the clamping action of the sides to securely hold the magnetic circuit against movement. A unique unitary sheet metal balance cross and a terminal plate assembly provide for connecting inner ends of taut bands which support the coil for movement. Cooperating tabs and slots on the coil, balance cross, and terminal assembly provide for securing the terminal plate and balance cross at opposite ends of the coil in predetermined locations with respect to the coil. A unique stop arrangement including tab means integral with the balance cross, and a hub cooperate to limit transverse displacement of the coil as a result of shock and vibration, to prevent damage to the delicate taut bands which support the coil for pivotal movement. The overall arrangement provides for rapid assembly without danger of substantial inaccuracy of the assembled instrument as a result of accumulation of tolerances.

Meter construction

A panel meter having a unique casing with an adapter on the casing. The meter movement is in a compartment of the casing and the adapter is secured to the casing and cooperates with the casing to define a compartment separate from the meter compartment. Components such as calibrating resistors and rectifiers can be installed, if required, in the separate compartment after the meter movement is installed in the casing. In the preferred embodiment, the casing has a configuration generally in the form of a segment of a cylinder, and the adapter has a segment configuration so that the casing and adapter present a generally cylindrical profile when joined. This arrangement permits using the same basic meter movement and casing to produce meters of different operating characteristics. The meter either with or without the adapter can be inserted through the usual circular opening of a mounting panel. The casing has toothed sides to retain a quick connect panel nut used to secure the meter to the panel.

An electric meter particularly characterized by a small number of moving parts and simplified assembly. A coil assembly initially including integral support elements which permit connection of pivot bearings or taut bands is adapted to be accurately positioned for rotation on the supporting base by inserting the assembly into the base. Cooperating locating surfaces on the base and coil assembly provide for accurate positioning of the support elements so the axis of rotation of the coil is in a predetermined position relative to a magnetic circuit of the meter. After insertion of the coil assembly, the bridging elements are severed. A coil support form of unique construction includes motion limiting elements which cooperate with surfaces of the magnetic circuit to limit the permissible extent of movement of the coil, in the event of shock or impact, to positions well within the elastic limit of the supports which mount the coil for rotation. The coil support halves connected together in electrically insulated relation to each other. Damping rings can be secured directly to the respective coil support halves, after the coil form is assembled.
