A golf club shaft is made from sheets of carbon fibers in a thermoplastic matrix. A method and apparatus are also set forth for making a golf club shaft in a substantially voidless manner. An improvement in vibration dampening is obtained.

An assembly for recovering crystals from a slurry comprises a filtration unit including a rotatably mounted cylindrical filter, a slurry input for receiving slurry pressurized by a pump. The filtration unit has an outlet for discharging crystalline material separated from the slurry by the filtration unit. A first hopper connected to the filtration unit at the discharge outlet thereof is provided at a downstream side with a first valve unit which is in turn connected to a second hopper on a downstream side. A second valve unit is coupled to the second hopper at a downstream side thereof. Each of the valve units includes a rotatably mounted dome shaped valve member. The second hopper is provided with a vent extending to a gas storage tank. A conduit links the hoppers to one another for substantially equalizing pressure in the hoppers prior to an opening of the upstream valve during a discharge procedure. At least one of the hoppers is provided with a blower mechanism for removing crystalline material caked on a wall of the one of the first hopper and the second hopper.

A conveyor installation comprises a framework having stationary guides with plastic contact surfaces. A conveyor belt is mounted for travel on the framework and includes plastic carriers mounted on plastic chain links. The carriers are supported for sliding contact with some of the guides which define vertical support rails. The carriers are connected to the links by socket and post connections with dowel pins extending therethrough. The conveyor belt carries plastic hold-down members which engage the stationary guides to prevent rising-up of the conveyor belt as the belt changes direction, the hold-down members being connected by socket/post connections. The carriers are of grid-like, air pervious construction and include U-shaped, downwardly curved projections at front and rear edges.

A longitudinally elongate conveyor belt is adapted for conveying a plurality of transversely spaced items. The belt comprises a plurality of interconnected, generally transversely extending rod members which are spaced apart along the longitudinal direction. Each rod member is upwardly arched to define first and second item-supporting segments. The first and second segments diverge in the downward direction so as to resist a tendency for the first and second items to be displaced by belt sag. An outer edge of the belt may be elevated relative to the inner edge to compensate for centrifugal forces.

A conveyor travels in a helical path and is driven by a plurality of drive sprockets which are mounted on a common drive shaft. Each drive sprocket includes a yieldable portion which moves relative to a ring gear of the sprocket when the conveyor encounters an unyielding resistance. A sensor is activated in response to relative movement of the yieldable portion of the sprocket to provide an indication of which drive sprocket has sensed the resistance to conveyor travel.

A conveyor installation comprises a framework having stationary guides with plastic contact surfaces. A conveyor belt is mounted for travel on the framework and includes plastic carriers mounted on plastic chain links. The carriers are supported for sliding contact with some of the guides which define vertical support rails. The carriers are connected to the links by upstanding coupling members. Plastic clip-on sleeves are mounted on the coupling members for engagement with some of the stationary guides to minimize wear of the chain, while assuring a low friction sliding contact between the chain and the guides. Snap-on pan guides are insertable into recesses of the carriers.
