A flat panel-configured electronically steered phased array antenna includes a planar distribution of densely nested microstrip dipole sub-arrays, arranged and controlled in a manner similar to microstrip `reflect-array` antenna elements. The resultant phase of a circularly polarized wave for a reflect-array fan-out distribution of dipole antenna elements is controlled by an associated plurality of triode-configured field emission devices. Each dipole element sub-array is plated to a resistive sub-layer on an interior surface of a flat first millimeter wave transmissive panel member of an evacuated flat panel type support structure. Mounted to a similar resistive layer on the interior surface of a second, flat panel member is a microstrip conductive layer partially overlapped around its periphery by respective fan-configured microstrip dipole antenna elements plated on the first panel member. Arranged between overlapping regions and overlapping portions of the respective dipole antenna elements are a plurality of elements, that form cathode and control gates of plural triode-configured field emission devices, the anodes of which are dipoles formed on the first plate member. These elements select a desired dipole pair within each subarray and control the current therein.

Flat panel-configured electronically steerable phased array antenna

A field sequential liquid crystal display has a backlight that provides different color fields and a liquid crystal display panel that has a matrix of cells. Data lines are coupled to the cells and provide gray level data to the cells. Select lines are coupled to the cells and enable the cells. The cells include integrated memories coupled to the data lines, these integrated memories storing gray level data received via the data lines. The integration of the memories on the display panel allows all of the cells on the panel to be charged approximately simultaneously so that the time any one color is backlighting the entire display approaches an optimum fraction of a frame.

Field sequential liquid crystal display with memory integrated within

A display having as a light source thereof an electron tube. The electron tube has disposed in an evacuated envelope thereof a plurality of cathode means, each one thereof adapted to emit electrons in response to a control signal. A plurality of sets of at least one cathodoluminescent stripe is disposed within the envelope. Each one of said sets is associated with a corresponding one of the cathode means and adapted to emit light with a predetermined one of a set of primary colors in response to electrons emitted by the corresponding cathode means striking such stripe. An anode for collecting electrons emitted by said cathode is also disposed within the evacuated envelope.

Multi-color display

In a video imaging and transmission system, the entire field of view of camera equipment aboard a remotely piloted vehicle is imaged as high resolution data. This high resolution data is digitized and stored in memory aboard the remote vehicle. In order to reduce the bandwidth of the information which is to be transmitted to a ground-based operator, only a selected portion of the stored high resolution data, corresponding to the output of oculometer and head position equipment that monitors the operator's look angle at a display, is read out from memory and transmitted as high resolution data. The remaining portion of the image provided on the operator's display is comprised of low resolution data derived from the high resolution data stored in memory. Because the high resolution data is obtained from memory and not from the camera equipment directly, the camera is effectively decoupled from the data link. As such, the system permits the camera to be a single movable sensor or an array of multiple fixed sensors. It also substantially increases the speed of operation of the system.
