An aircraft display system includes a processor configured to receive a heading-based leg and to generate display signals based on the heading-based leg; and a display device including a horizontal situation indicator coupled to the processor. The horizontal situation indicator receives the display signals from the processor and displaying symbology representing the heading-based leg.

Flight deck communication and display system

A display system and method for an aircraft simultaneously displays the terrain under the flight plan, or under the current track of the aircraft, as both a two-dimensional lateral situation view image and as a perspective vertical situation view image. This provides improved tactical flight planning, and that does not erroneously show the flight plan passing through the displayed terrain.

Perspective vertical situation display system and method

A display system is provided that renders a horizontal situation indicator that includes required navigation performance (RNP) and estimated position uncertainty (EPU) values rendered non-numerically and in a fairly intuitive manner. A processor receives at least data representative of a desired course of the aircraft, data representative of the RNP for the aircraft, and data representative of the EPU for the aircraft. The processor renders, on a display device, a horizontal situation indicator that includes an aircraft symbol representative of a top-down view of the aircraft, an RNP boundary graphic representative of at least one RNP boundary for the aircraft, and an EPU graphic representative of the EPU for the aircraft. The aircraft symbol is rendered at a position that is representative of actual aircraft position relative to the desired course, and the RNP boundary graphic is rendered at a position relative to the rendered aircraft symbol and comprises a shaded region that shades a portion of the display device.

System for displaying required navigation performance on a horizontal situation indicator

A display system and method for an aircraft displays, in real-time, the protected airspace associated with a CTL maneuver. The system processes aircraft approach category data and determines the protected airspace based at least in part on the processed aircraft approach category. An image representative of the determined protected airspace is displayed on the aircraft flight deck display system.

Methods and apparatus are provided for selectively rendering a standby attitude indicator or an airport map on an aircraft display. The system determines whether the aircraft is on the ground or in flight and, based on this determination, either the standby attitude indicator or the airport map are rendered on the display. If the aircraft is determined to be in flight, then the standby attitude indicator is rendered. Conversely, if the aircraft is determined to be on the ground, then either the standby attitude indicator or the airport map is selectively rendered.

A display system and method for an aircraft selectively distributes and displays terminal procedure data. The system includes a processor and a display device. The processor is adapted to receive terminal procedure data representative of an airport terminal procedure that is normally illustrated on a terminal procedure chart and is operable, upon receipt of the terminal procedure data, to supply terminal procedure image rendering display commands. Each of the plurality of flight deck display devices is coupled to receive selected ones of the terminal procedure image rendering display commands and is operable, in response thereto, to render a terminal procedure image representative of a portion of the airport terminal procedure that is normally illustrated on the terminal procedure chart.

System and method for distributively displaying terminal procedure data

Methods and apparatus are provided for displaying appropriate identifiers on aircraft taxiways on an aircraft flight deck display. Data representative of taxiway segments, in which each taxiway segment at least partially defines the aircraft taxiway, are supplied. At least a portion of the taxiway segments that define the aircraft taxiway are rendered on the flight deck display. The rendered taxiway segments include identified segments and non-identified segments. The identified segments have the identifier associated with the aircraft taxiway rendered thereon. The non-identified segments do not have the identifier associated with the aircraft taxiway rendered thereon.

Taxiway awareness and advisory system

A display system is provided for displaying runway landing data. The system includes a processor and a display device. The processor is adapted to receive data representative of an aircraft landing operation and is operable, in response thereto, to supply one or more image rendering display commands. The display device is coupled to receive the image rendering display commands and is operable, in response thereto, to render an image representative of a runway and a segment of the runway that will be used to land and stop the aircraft during the aircraft landing operation. A method for displaying the runway landing data is also provided.

Method and apparatus to display landing performance data

A navigational system includes a display device and logic that simultaneously presents a textual display of an original flight plan and a modified flight plan on the display device. The textual display includes a textlist of waypoints that are on the original flight plan and the modified flight plan and performance data for common waypoints that are on both the original flight plan and the modified flight plan, as well as for new waypoints that are added to the modified flight plan. The performance data for each common waypoint includes performance data for the waypoint on the original flight plan and for the waypoint on the modified flight plan. The system may further include an interface device that allows an operator to change the modified flight plan. The logic updates the textlist of waypoints on the textual display when the modified flight plan is changed and updates the performance data on the textual display for common waypoints when the modified flight plan is changed. The logic may also designate on the textual display waypoints to be removed, which correspond to waypoints that are on the original flight plan but not on the modified flight plan, and, when the modified flight plan is activated to become a new flight plan, the logic removes from the textual display the waypoints that are designated to be removed.

System and method for textually displaying an original flight plan and a modified flight plan simultaneously

A display system having a display screen for graphical display of data, a graphics processor for receiving data from at least a terrain data base and data from a weather radar and for converting the received data into a single data stream to provide an input data stream to the display screen. The single display displays the weather data on one portion of the display screen and displays the terrain data on a second portion of the display screen. The weather data is displayed as a two-dimensional graphic and the terrain data is displayed as a three-dimensional graphic, thus providing a user with the necessary flight information while keeping processing resources to a reasonable level. The terrain data is displayed as an out the window display graphic, and the weather data and the terrain data displays are scaled such that the displays are dimensionally juxtaposed to allow rapid recognition of the data by a user of the display system.

Apparatus for the display of weather and terrain information on a single display

Method and apparatus are provided for assembling a flight plan. The apparatus has a memory configured to store data associated with waypoints that can be used in the flight plan and a processor that is configured to access the memory and retrieve the data associated with a first waypoint and data associated with a second waypoint. The first waypoint corresponding to a first leg of the flight plan and the second waypoint corresponding to a second leg of the flight plan. In addition, the apparatus has a display that is configured to produce a visual representation of the flight plan with a single waypoint designation at a single location for the first waypoint and the second waypoint using the data retrieved by the processor. The display is also configured to produce a Graphical User Interface (GUI) for the single waypoint designation at the single location with a first leg identifier for the first leg and a second leg identifier other than first leg identifier for the second leg.

Methods and apparatus for assembling a flight plan

A method of simultaneously presenting a textual display of an original flight plan and a modified flight plan includes displaying a textlist of waypoints, copying waypoints from the original flight plan into the modified flight plan, comparing each waypoint on the modified flight plan with waypoints on the original flight plan, determining, in a first determining step, for each modified flight plan waypoint, whether the modified flight plan waypoint originated from a waypoint in the original flight plan, and adding, in a first adding step, the modified flight plan waypoint to the textlist, when it is determined in the determining step that the modified flight plan waypoint did not originate from a waypoint in the original flight plan. The method may also include determining, in a second determining step, a position of the originating waypoint in the original flight plan relative to the position of the modified flight plan waypoint in the modified flight plan, when it is determined in the first determining step that the modified flight plan waypoint originated from a waypoint in the original flight plan; and adding, in a second adding step, the modified flight plan waypoint to the textlist, when it is determined in the second determining step that the position of the originating waypoint in the original flight plan corresponds to the position of the modified flight plan waypoint in the modified flight plan.

Logic method and apparatus for textually displaying an original flight plan and a modified flight plan simultaneously

A flight control system and method for controlling a circle-to-land (&ldquo;CTL&rdquo;) maneuver utilizes an airborne area navigator. The area navigator receives inputs on aircraft category, aircraft position and speed, airport navigation data and pilot supplied data. In response to this data, the area navigator calculates the necessary conditions for executing the CTL maneuver and outputs control commands to a flight director. The pilot then executes the CTL maneuver either manually using the information provided by the area navigator or by using the aircraft autopilot under the direction of the flight director.
