Apparatus and method for cooling internal components of a down-hole well drilling apparatus. Components of the well drilling apparatus are encased in an inner canister that is further encased in an outer canister creating a void between the inner canister and the outer canister. Further, a plurality of moveable barriers is disposed between the inner canister and the outer canister and contains a heat transfer fluid. A plurality of agitators add mechanical energy to the plurality of moveable barriers compressing and expanding, while repositioning, the heat transfer fluid and creating a heat pump based on a reverse Stirling cycle to remove heat from the cooler inner canister and transfer the heat to the hotter environment outside the outer canister.

A flexible sealing connector for conveying an electrical signal from a first tool portion to a second tool portion, at least one of the first tool portion and the second tool portion having a receiver with a surface defining a receiver passageway, includes a deformable boot in sealing engagement with the surface of the receiver passageway, the deformable boot having a surface defining a boot passageway. The connector further includes an electrical coupler in sealing engagement with the surface of the boot passageway, the coupler having a first end electrically connected to a first electrical line extending from the first tool portion and a second end electrically connected to a second electrical line extending from the second tool portion whereby the first line and the second line are electrically connected, the receiver passageway is sealed by the boot and the boot passageway is sealed by the coupler.

Communication specks are applied on at least one of an outer surface or an inner surface of the pipe segments or coil tubing.

A downhole tool for subsurface disposal is provided. The tool comprises an elongated tool body, an enclosure attached to an exterior surface of the tool body. The enclosure comprises at least one transducer disposed at an angle with respect to a longitudinal axis of the enclosure, and an electronics board coupled to and disposed adjacent to the at least one transducer. The enclosure also defines an internal cavity, and the internal cavity contains a fluid for insulating the at least one transducer from a downhole environment. The fluid is in direct contact with the at least one transducer and the electronics board.

Enclosures for containing transducers and electronics on a downhole tool

An enclosure for housing a transducer and electronics for disposal on a downhole tool. A transducer is disposed at an angle with respect to a longitudinal axis of the enclosure, wherein the enclosure contains a fluid surrounding the transducer. Enclosures also include transducers linked to motor means for selective rotation of the transducers within the enclosure. Enclosures with transducer arrays for phased or targeted signal transmission/detection.

A measurement package for disposal on an apparatus such as a downhole tool or a tool like device. The measurement package including an enclosure, a first acoustic transducer housed within the enclosure, a second acoustic transducer housed within the enclosure and electronics housed within the enclosure that is in communication with the first and second transducers. Further, an acoustic transmitter and receivers can be disposed at an angle with respect to a longitudinal axis of the enclosure. The enclosure can contain attenuative material surrounding the transmitter and receivers, and electronics for controlling the transmitter and receivers and communicating with the downhole tool.

A formation evaluation tool positionable in a wellbore penetrating a subterranean formation is provided. The formation evaluation tool includes a cooling system adapted to pass a cooling fluid through electronics in the formation evaluation tool whereby heat is dissipated therefrom, the electronics has at least one gauge, a fluid communication device having an inlet adapted to receive the formation fluid and a flowline operatively connected to the fluid communication device and the gauge for placing the formation fluid in fluid communication therewith whereby properties of the formation fluid are determined.

Wellbore formation evaluation system and method

A formation evaluation tool positionable in a wellbore penetrating a subterranean formation is provided. The formation evaluation tool includes a cooling system adapted to pass a cooling fluid near electronics in the formation evaluation tool whereby heat is dissipated therefrom, the electronics has at least one gauge, a fluid communication device having an inlet adapted to receive the formation fluid and a flowline operatively connected to the fluid communication device and the gauge for placing the formation fluid in fluid communication therewith whereby properties of the formation fluid are determined. The formation evaluation tool may also be provided with a plurality of sample chambers operatively connected to the flowline for collecting at least a portion of the formation fluid and a pressure compensator in fluid communication with the wellbore and operatively connected to the plurality of sample chambers for applying pressure to the sample chambers whereby pressure is balanced therebetween.

A pair of platform devices used for interaction with a flexible coil spring toy have a plurality of flat step-like surfaces separated vertically and horizontally corresponding to the periodic step-walking motion of the flexible coil spring toy. The platform devices are manipulated in an alternating sequence in cooperation with the motion of the flexible coil spring toy to give the appearance that the toy is walking down a set of stairs. In the preferred embodiment, the platform devices have a handle and are held and manipulated by a human operator. The spring momentum transfers the coils of the spring from one surface of the device to the next lowermost surface of the device as the spring's adjacent coils successively sweep through the path of an arc. When a certain amount of coils have been moved to the lower surface, the momentum causes the trailing coils to move over the center of mass of the flexible coil spring and land onto another lower surface to give the appearance that the flexible coil spring toy is walking down a set of stairs. When the spring toy reaches the lowermost surface of one of the devices, the other device is placed in position to enable the spring toy to land on its uppermost surface. The manipulation of the devices is continued to repeatedly transfer the spring toy from one device to the other for amusement.

A manipulative amusement device that includes upper and lower plates parallel to and in coaxial alignment with and rotatable relative to each other, each plate having a pair of spaced collar pieces disposed on opposite sides of a plurality of openings disposed in the periphery thereof to define a plurality of coaxially disposed spaced pairs of collar members, and a plurality of cylinder assemblies each formed about a respective longitudinal axis and comprised of an even number of cylinder segments with each cylinder assembly having opposing ends adapted for being rotatably received by the pair of spaced coaxially aligned collar members for permitting rotation of the cylinder assemblies. Improvements include a knob portion having a generally cylindrical inner recess projecting axially from one plate with the other plate having an axial post projecting therefrom and adapted for insertion through a central aperture in the one plate and into the knob recess, and a spring loaded retainer assembly cooperating with the post and the interior recess of the knob member for biasing both plates into planar surface contact and permitting limited axial separation of the plates in response to outward forces exerted therebetween by lugs disposed in the periphery of the collar members rotating out of registry with longitudinal recesses disposed in the ends of the cylinder assemblies.

Manipulative amusement device

An amusement device for use in providing a manipulative puzzle, word games, games of chance, scoring games, or the like. Upper and lower parallel plates are planarly rotatable about a vertical axis. A plurality of cylinder assemblies is carried by the plates disposed on the outer periphery such that their longitudinal axes intersect to define a regular polygon parallel to the plates. Means are provided for maintaining spatial position of the upper one-half of each cylinder assembly relative to the upper plate, and the lower one-half of each cylinder assembly relative to the lower plate as the plates are rotated in opposing directions. When the plates are rotated such that the upper and lower cylinder halves combine to define the cylinder assemblies, each such assembly is further rotatable about its longitudinal axis. Each cylinder is comprised of sections each preferably having an identifier on its outer surface such as a different color or the like. Repeated rotation of the plates and cylinder assemblies permits formation of such assemblies from any combination of cylinder sections. When the combinations of cylinder sections are randomized, such repeated rotations may result in forming a preselected pattern of such identifiers to solve a puzzle as, for example, in forming a plurality of cylinder assemblies each with a different uniform outer surface color.

An improved small diameter, high density shaped charge perforating apparatus is provided. The perforating apparatus includes an elongated carrier member having a plurality of shaped charge receiving stations spirally located therealong. The anterior and dorsal sections of the shaped charges extend outside the outer diameter of the carrier member and a length of helically wound detonator cord passes through an axial aperture in the dorsal section to retain the shaped charges in the carrier member. An alignment member is connected to one end of the carrier member to prevent rotational movement of the carrier member within the gun body and aligns the axis of perforation for each shaped charge with spotfaces on recesses in the periphery of the gun body.

Method and apparatus for completing sursurface formations traversed by a borehole. A perforating gun and a firing head assembly are run into the borehole on the end of a tubing string. A percussion firing assembly subsequently is lowered through the tubing string and latches into the firing head assembly. To initiate the firing system an impact member is dropped through the tubing string. Should ignition fail to occur the percussion firing assembly can be detached and removed from the borehole. Additional percussion firing assemblies can be lowered into engagement with and removed from the firing head assembly as desired. Further, an electrical firing assembly can be lowered through the tubing string into engagement with the firing head assembly and an electrical control signal used to detonate the perforating gun. Should ignition again fail the electrical firing assembly is removed leaving a perforating system having no primary explosives therein, which can be removed from the borehole by pulling the tubing string.
