A computer includes a processor and a memory storing processor-executable instructions. The processor is programmed to prevent a traction battery from providing power to a vehicle powertrain below a charge threshold, and then, upon one of (a) receiving an acceleration demand above an acceleration threshold and (b) predicting that a planned maneuver classified as high acceleration will occur within a time threshold, permit the traction battery to provide power to the vehicle powertrain below the charge threshold.

Traction-battery control in hybrid powertrain

A system includes a processor and a memory. The memory stores instructions executable by the processor to determine an action for a vehicle based on an identified risk condition, to determine a minimum time for performing the action, and based on data including a vehicle battery state of charge, an outdoor temperature, and a vehicle mode of operation, to determine an available electrical power for performing the action. The instructions further include instructions to determine maximum permissible electrical energy discharge rate based on the minimum time for performing the action and the determined available electrical power, to determine a load control plan for a plurality of electrical devices in the vehicle based on the maximum permissible electrical energy discharge rate, an electrical load status of the vehicle, and load priority data; and to execute the determined load control plan.

Vehicle load shedding

A plurality of fault conditions are detected on a communication network onboard a vehicle. The detected fault conditions, a fault condition importance, environment conditions, and a vehicle operation mode are input to a neural network that outputs rankings for respective detected fault conditions. The neural network is trained by determining a loss function based on a maximum likelihood principle that determines a probability distribution that ranks the detected fault conditions. The vehicle is operated based on the rankings of the fault conditions.

Ranking fault conditions

A computer includes a processor and a memory, the memory storing instructions executable by the processor to collect steering, speed, and position data about a plurality of vehicles from one or more infrastructure sensors, identify a vehicle that varies from a specified position in a roadway lane relative to a roadway lane marker or exceeds a threshold speed based on the collected data, instruct the identified vehicle to move to a side of a roadway, and send a message to a central server including an identification of the vehicle.

Enhanced vehicle operation

A vehicle includes a low-voltage battery electrically coupled to a powertrain, and a computer programmed to put the vehicle in a minimal risk condition in response to a state of charge of the low-voltage battery falling below a threshold. The vehicle may further include a DC/DC converter electrically coupled to the powertrain and to the low-voltage battery, and a high-voltage battery electrically coupled to the powertrain.

Vehicle low-voltage energy system control

A computer includes a processor and a memory, the memory storing instructions executable by the processor to identify a failure in one of a first, second, or third vehicle power networks and to instruct one of a first display controller connected to the first vehicle power network or a second display controller connected to the second vehicle power network to provide a message to displays respectively connected to the first vehicle power network or the second vehicle power network.

Vehicle power network

An electrical power system for a vehicle includes an interface electrically connected to a node and a battery electrically connected to the interface. The interface includes circuit elements that permit current flow between the battery and the node when and only when the voltage of the node is below a threshold.

Vehicle backup electrical power system

A vehicle includes a low-voltage battery, a high-voltage battery, and a converter that decreases voltage provided from the high-voltage battery to the low-voltage battery. A system controller of the vehicle is programmed to use the converter, in a key-off cycle, to charge the low-voltage battery a calibrated number of times that the low-voltage battery drops below a predefined state-of-charge threshold, and send a wireless notification a subsequent time the low-voltage battery drops below the threshold. A notification is sent to a predefined contact address when a periodically computed state of charge of a low-voltage battery of a vehicle falls below a predefined threshold. Using a converter, voltage provided from a high-voltage battery of the vehicle to the low-voltage battery is decreased to charge the low-voltage battery responsive to receipt from the contact address of a response indicating approval of the charge.

Battery recharge notification and automatic recharge

Method and apparatus are disclosed for controlling a high voltage power supply. An example vehicle includes first and second power supply buses, a high voltage power supply coupled to the first and second power supply buses, and a high voltage controller. The high voltage controller is configured to control the high voltage power supply, detect a short circuit on the first power supply bus, and responsively change a power source of the high voltage controller by activating an opto-isolator and one or more smart FETs.

Redundant vehicle power supply control systems and methods

A vehicle includes a power converter electrically coupled to an auxiliary battery and an electrical load. A vehicle voltage control system includes a controller programmed command an output voltage of the power converter to a voltage that is a maximum of target voltages associated with electrical loads that are electrically coupled to the auxiliary battery and activated, a battery charging voltage when a demand for auxiliary battery charging is present, and a float voltage associated with the auxiliary battery.

Vehicle power supply control

A vehicle may include a battery and a controller programmed to set a bus voltage threshold such that during a next charging event a voltage of the battery achieves a desulfation value. The controller may set the bus voltage threshold in response to charge acceptance of the battery falling below a predetermined sulfation value. The controller may be programmed to lower the threshold such that the voltage of the battery falls below the desulfation value. The controller may lower the threshold in response to the charge acceptance exceeding the predetermined sulfation value during the event.

Low charge acceptance mitigation

A vehicle system includes a voltage converter configured to electrically isolate and convert power transferred between high voltage (HV) and low voltage (LV) busses, and a controller configured to, responsive to regenerative power exceeding a charge power limit of a traction battery receiving charge via the HV bus, increase an output voltage of the converter to initiate transfer of some of the regenerative power to an auxiliary battery connected with the LV bus.

Regenerative braking power distribution

A controller may include input channels configured to receive charge acceptance values of an auxiliary battery and an SOC of a traction battery. The controller may also include output channels configured to provide threshold signals to set a voltage threshold of an auxiliary bus coupled with the auxiliary battery and deriving power from the traction battery. The controller may include control logic configured to generate the threshold signals such that during a next charging event, a voltage of the auxiliary battery achieves a desulfation value. The controller logic may generate the threshold signals in response to the acceptance falling below a predetermined sulfation value and the SOC being above an SOC threshold.

Low charge acceptance mitigation using a traction battery

A vehicle system according to an exemplary aspect of the present disclosure includes, among other things, a DC/DC converter bus adapted to operate at a first voltage set-point and a low voltage battery bus adapted to operate at a second voltage set-point different from the first voltage set-point.
