Methods and systems for operating a gas turbine engine system are provided. The system includes a fuel control system. The fuel control system includes a plurality of sensors positioned about the gas turbine engine system and configured to measure at least one parameter associated with the sensor, and a processor programmed to receive a signal from at least one of the plurality of sensors indicative of a composition of the fuel. The processor is further programmed to determine the physical properties of a fuel at an inlet to the flow control devices using a flow model and the at least one signal, determine a corresponding correction to a gas fuel flow gain using the determined physical properties, and automatically control fuel delivery as well as fuel split between the fuel injection points on the combustor using the adjusted flow gain to facilitate permitting a relatively large variation in the fuel composition for use in the gas turbine engine.

Methods and apparatus for operating gas turbine engine systems

A system and method for controlling flow of cooling steam in an advanced machine is provided. The advanced machine includes a gas turbine, which is connected to a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) via HP and/or IP valves. The HRSG provides cooling steam to cool the gas turbine using a high pressure drum. The pressure of the high pressure drum is measured during start-up of the advanced machine. A pressure setpoint associated with providing cooling steam via valves is set equal to the lowest measured pressure of the high pressure drum that is greater than a floor pressure setpoint for the gas turbine. Therefore, when the high pressure drum is pressurized above the floor pressure setpoint during start-up, the pressure in the HP drum is maintained.

In a power generating plant including a gas turbine which utilizes fuel gas from an oxygen blown gasifier for combustion at a predetermined pressure to drive a primary load, and where the fuel gas is supplied from the gasifier at a pressure higher than the predetermined pressure, an arrangement is provided to decrease the pressure of the fuel gas to a lower pressure required by the gas turbine. This arrangement includes a combustor and an expander downstream of the combustor, the combustor and the expander located between the gasifier and the gas turbine.

In a method of operating a gas turbine wherein process by-product gases (e.g. from a blast furnace) are used as fuel in the gas turbine, an improvement which includes the steps of a) removing inert gases from the process gas to thereby form an enriched process gas; b) raising the enriched process gas to a minimum pressure sufficient for combustion in the gas turbine, and c) feeding the enriched process gas to the gas turbine for combustion. The invention also relates to a combined cycle plant including a gas turbine; a process system which supplies by-product gas to be used as fuel in the gas turbine; a gas enrichment station for removing inert gas prior to, or part-way through, compression of the enriched process gas; a gas clean-up station located upstream or downstream of the gas enrichment station; and, optionally, a heat recovery steam generator located between the gas turbine and steam turbine; and means for conducting exhaust gas from the gas turbine to the heat recovery steam generator to generate steam for the steam turbine.

Low grade heat recovered from various sections of an integrated gasification system is used to drive an absorption chilling cycle. In an exemplary embodiment, the recovered low grade heat is used to heat a two component working solution that is pumped through a closed cycle absorption chilling system. The heated working solution is separated into a rich stream and a lean stream. The rich stream is condensed to produce a liquid rich stream that is throttled to reduce its temperature and then evaporated to produce a cooling load. The cooling load may be used for auxiliary cooling needs in the integrated gasification system. The rich vapor stream produced by the evaporating step is mixed with the lean stream to produce a mixed stream, which is cooled in an absorber to produce the working solution for the cycle to be repeated.
