A method, control system, and combined cycle power plant are disclosed herein, which enable balancing thrust between a high pressure (HP) section and an intermediate pressure (IP) section of an opposed flow steam turbine in a combined cycle power plant, including predicting or determining a presence or absence of a thrust imbalance between the HP section and the IP section based on steam flow, pressure, and temperature data at an HP section inlet; and based on the presence or absence of the thrust imbalance, adjusting an amount of steam that enters the HP section.

Model-based partial letdown thrust balancing

A method and system for increasing the efficiency of a turbomachine having an extraction system is provided. The extraction system may have multiple extraction ports from which the working fluid of the turbomachine is extracted to meet extraction load requirements of an independent process. The method and system may enable a control system to optimally determine the which extraction ports to draw the working fluid from for meeting the extraction load requirement. The optimal location may be determined by utilizing the data on the load requirement, where the extraction load requirement may be operationally distinct from the turbomachine load.

Method and system for reducing the impact on the performance of a turbomachine operating an extraction system

Disclosed is a seal for a turbomachine including at least one fixed component located proximate to a rotating component of the turbomachine defining a clearance therebetween. At least one magnet is located at the at least one fixed component. The at least one magnet is, when activated, capable of moving the at least one fixed component thereby adjusting the clearance between the fixed component and the rotating component. Further disclosed is a turbomachine utilizing the seal and a method for adjusting a position of at least one fixed component of a turbomachine.
