Methods and apparatus for storing data about biological entities are provided. A computing device can receive a plurality of data items about a biological entity from a plurality of sources. The computing device can verify each data item of the plurality of data items using the computing device by at least: determining a source of the data item from among the plurality of sources, determining a provenance for the data item associated with the source of the data item, and verifying that the data item is associated with the biological entity based at least on the provenance for the data item associated with the source of the data item. After verifying that a particular data item is associated with the biological entity, the computing device can store the particular data item in a data log associated with the biological entity.

Long-term data storage service for wearable device data

A method for tagging and organizing data is provided. In one example, physiological data detected from a wearer of a wearable device is received and associated with a tag based, at least in art, on an input by the wearer. The input may be a state of the wearer, such as physical or mental state, or a rule. The collected physiological data may be organized based on the tag and, in some examples, on other types of received data, such as a wearer's personal data. In other example methods, data may be stored in a database based on one or more tags associated with the data.

Data tagging

A wearable device described herein includes a housing and a mount configured to mount the housing to an external surface of a wearer. The wearable device further includes one or more sensors configured to measure at least one physiological parameter of the wearer. The wearable device may obtain an activity metric that is based on at least one physiological parameter of the wearer measured by the one or more sensors and demographical data specific to the wearer. In some examples, the wearable may be configured to calculate the activity metric or a preliminary activity metric and to indicate the activity metric and/or preliminary activity metric to the wearer. In some examples, the wearable device may transmit the physiological parameter measurement to an external device and receive an indication of the activity metric from the external device.

This disclosure relates to measuring ultraviolet (UV) exposure. One example system includes an electronic sensor chip that includes a UV sensor that measures a UV intensity reading, an inertial measurement unit that acquires movement data of the UV sensor, and at least one processor. The system further includes a light pipe that guides light towards the UV sensor and a diffuser that has an angle-dependent transmission function and covers an end of the light pipe. Example operations can be performed by the processor include determining a solar incidence angle between a direction of the sun and a normal direction of the UV sensor, computing an estimation of a maximum UV intensity at normal incidence based on the UV intensity reading, the solar incidence angle, and the angle-dependent transmission function of the diffuser, and outputting a UV index based on the estimation of the maximum UV intensity at normal incidence.

Systems and methods for measuring ultraviolet exposure

Methods and apparatus for providing rule-based access to data stored on wearable devices are provided. A wearable computing device can store data that includes data about a wearer of the wearable computing device. The wearable computing device can receive a request for a portion of the stored data. The wearable computing device can determine a designated role associated with the request for the portion of the stored data. The wearable computing device can determine one or more rules regarding access to the portion of the stored data based on the designated role. The wearable computing device can determine a response to the request for the portion of the stored data by at least: determining whether the request is validated by at least applying the one or more rules to the request, and after determining that the request is validated, providing the requested portion of the stored data.

Automated objective-based feature improvement

A system disclosed rate limits API requests. The system includes an API server that receives an API request from a developer application at an API server and a token bucket to rate limit API requests from the developer application. A token query translation module determines a number of tokens needed to process the API request based on a rate configured in predefined policy data for the developer application and a replenish rate of the token bucket. The number of tokens inversely corresponds to the rate configured in the predefined policy data. A token request module instructs the API server to process the API request if the token bucket has sufficient tokens and reduces the number of tokens in the token bucket for the developer application by the number of tokens needed to process the API request. In this way, the disclosed system effectively simulates buckets having configurable replenish rates.

An interactive web site summary system builds an overview browsing system for the entire Web. Overview browsing represents an alternative to the search-based view of information work by providing a consistent set of summary views that can be browsed interactively. The views presented by the present system partition and linearize a corpus for ready understanding and exploration. These views show features of a web site such as, for example, the relation of a web site to other web sites, the broad nature of the information contained in the web site, how the web site is structured, how the web site has changed over time. The interactive web site summary system maintains such summary information in a process that is fast enough to be updated daily.

A system and method are provided for eliciting interesting structure from a collection of entities or resources with explicit and/or implicit, static and/or dynamic relations, called 'affinities,' between them. Interesting structure includes (1) notions of quality, authority, or definitiveness of information, (2) notions of relevance to a user's information need, (3) notions of similarity among the plurality of resources retrieved from a universe of resources by a query process, and (4) notions of similarity among the usages of resources by different users/servers. Similarities between entities are computed, based on similarities between the affinity values for the entities. That is, where the affinitiy values for two entities resemble each other, the two entities have a high degree of similarity. Using the similarities, the entities are ranked, clustered, etc., based on a significance derived from the similarities. The ranking, clustering, etc., makes up the interesting structure which is sought.

A method for identifying, filtering, ranking and cataloging information elements; as for example, World Wide Web pages, of the Internet in whole, part, or in combination. The method is preferably implemented in computer software and features steps for enabling a user to interactively create an information database including preferred information elements such as preferred World Wide Web pages in whole, part, or in combination.
