A system and method for time-frequency analysis in which acquired signals are modeled as frictionally damped harmonic oscillators having a friction factor that is not a free parameter are provided. The friction factor is selected as a function of the frequency value of the associated oscillator, such that an increase in both temporal and spectral resolution are provided over existing time-frequency analysis methods. The friction factor is also selected to define a spectral band, within which the given oscillator can detect data oscillations. The properly selected friction factor thereby provides the analysis over a broad spectral range that can span many orders of magnitude.

Method for data oscillator detection using frictionally damped harmonic oscillators

A system for draining excess cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) from the head of a subject includes a drainage shunt and a valve assembly that selectively permits the shunt to drain CSF. The valve assembly also compensates for multiple factors that can affect the subject's intracranial pressure (ICP) and compliance, and could otherwise lead to CSF over-drainage or other undesirable conditions.

Systems and methods for controlling cerebrospinal fluid in a subject's ventricular system

A method for identifying, suppressing, and reversing epileptogenesis, which is considered to be a learned response due to brain plasticity. The method includes identifying three epileptogenic conditions, neuronal hyperexcitability, spatial overconnectivity, and temporal overconnectivity. A treatment that accounts for each of these conditions is then be administered to the subject to reverse, or 'unlearn,' epilepsy.
