A process of preparing a catalyst composition which process comprises the steps of (a) treating ZSM-5 zeolite with an alkaline solution having a pH of at least (8) followed by ion exchange to obtain a treated zeolite, (b) extruding a mixture of the treated zeolite and binder and contacting the zeolite with a fluorocompound containing solution, (c) increasing the temperature of the extrudates obtained in step (b) to at least 200&#xb0; C., and (d) combining the extrudates obtained in step (c) with one or more metals selected from the group consisting of Group (10) and (11) of the IUPAC Periodic Table of Elements and a process for the conversion of an aromatic hydrocarbons containing feedstock using a catalyst composition prepared by such process.

There is disclosed a microporous crystalline material comprising a crystal structure having building units of double-6-rings (d6r) and pore opening of 8-rings, wherein the material comprises a first metal chosen from alkali-earth group, rare-earth group, alkali group or mixtures thereof, and a second metal chosen from copper, iron or mixtures thereof, wherein the material has molar silica to alumina ratio (SAR) from 3 to 12, and is further steamed to enhance stability. Methods of making the crystalline material are also disclosed. There is also disclosed a method of selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen oxides in exhaust gas, comprising at least partially contacting the exhaust gases with an article comprising the disclosed microporous crystalline material.

A process for preparing a hydrocarbon conversion catalyst that comprises a specially made silica-alumina composition and a metal or metal compound selected from Group VIB and Group VIII metals. The silica-alumina composition is made by preparing an aqueous mixture containing aluminum sulfate followed by adding alkali metal aluminate to the mixture to enhance the pH to within specified range and then adding aluminum sulfate to the mixture to lower the pH. Then alkali metal silicate is added followed by several other pH swings to provide a mixture containing silica-alumina. The resulting mixture is treated with an alkaline solution to provide a precipitate solid that is recovered to obtain a silica-alumina composition containing of from 30 to 70% wt silica and of from 70 to 30% wt of alumina.

Preparation of catalyst

A process for preparing a hydrocarbon conversion catalyst that comprises a specially made silica-alumina composition and a metal or metal compound selected from Group VIB and Group VIII metals. The silica-alumina composition is made by preparing an aqueous mixture containing aluminum sulfate followed by adding alkali metal aluminate to the mixture to inhance the pH to within specified range and then adding aluminum sulfate to the mixture to lower the pH. Then alkali metal silicate is added followed by several other pH swings to provide a mixture containing silica-alumina. The resulting mixture is treated with an alkaline solution to provide a precipitate solid that is recovered to obtain a silica-alumina composition containing of from 30 to 70% wt silica and of from 70 to 30% wt of alumina.

Process for preparing a modified zeolite Y which process comprises subjecting zeolite Y having a silica to alumina molar ratio of at least 10 to calcination at a temperature of from 700 to 1000&#xb0; C. wherein (i) the steam partial pressure is at most 0.06 bar at a temperature of from 700 to 800&#xb0; C., (ii) the steam partial pressure is at most 0.08 bar at a temperature of from 800 to 850&#xb0; C., (iii) the steam partial pressure is at least 0.03 bar at a temperature of from 850 to 900&#xb0; C., and (iv) the steam partial pressure is at least 0.05 bar at a temperature of from 900 to 950&#xb0; C. and (v) the steam partial pressure is at least 0.07 bar at a temperature of from 950 to 1000&#xb0; C., a modified zeolite Y obtainable by such process, zeolite Y having a silica to alumina molar ratio of at least 10, the infrared spectrum of which has a peak at 3700 cmbut substantially no peaks at 3605 and 3670 cmand zeolite Y having a silica to alumina molar ratio of at least 10, which zeolite Y has an acidity as measured by exchange with perdeuterated benzene of at most 20 micromole/gram.

Zeolite Y

Molecular sieves are prepared by forming a reaction mixture slurry, spray drying the reaction mixture slurry to form particles, and heating the spray dried reaction mixture at a temperature and pressure sufficient to cause crystallization of the molecular sieve. The reaction mixture contains an organic templating agent capable of forming the molecular sieve. The template may be added to the reaction mixture either by adding all of the template prior to spray drying, or by adding a portion of the template prior to spray drying with the remainder being added after spray drying.

A hydrophobic zeolite is prepared having high Hydrophobicity Index number by calcining a zeolite with steam under turbulent condition with respect to flow pattern of the zeolite and at a temperature within the range of 650-1000&deg; C.

The mesopore volume in pores of diameters ranging from 2 to 60 nm of zeolite Y materials is increased by the hydrothermal treatment of such zeolites at temperatures above the atmospheric boiling point of the treating solution. Unique zeolites are produced as result of such process.

Ammonium zeolites of extremely low alkali metal content are prepared by a process of potassium ion exchange followed by ammonium ion exchange. Zeolite X or zeolite Y that contain a significant amount of sodium are contacted with a potassium salt solution under conditions that provide a substantial exchange of potassium for sodium. The potassium enriched zeolite is then contacted with an ammonium salt solution so that the ammonium ion replaces the sodium and potassium ions. The resulting ammonium zeolite X or Y contains considerably less than 1% alkali metal calculated as Na.sub.2 O.

Process for preparing ammonium zeolites of low alkali metal content

Y-type zeolites with unit cell constants of less than 24.14 .ANG. are prepared by improving the method of dealumination and aluminum ion exchange. Zeolites with such low unit cell constants have not been known previously.
