A sensor ring and method for forming same is provided in which the ring has a stamped configuration bent into a final configuration. The stamped configuration has a flat, annular sensor portion extending from a cylindrical hub portion and the sensor portion has a plurality of substantially identical, circumferentially spaced window openings therein. Each window opening has an inner edge adjacent to and spaced radially outward from the hub and an outer edge spaced radially inward from the outer peripheral end of the sensor portion and leading and trailing edges extending, respectively, from the ends of the inner and outer edges to form each window as a polygon, preferably a trapezoid. In the final configuration, the sensor portion has a bight segment extending radially outward from the hub and a sensor or finger segment extending from the bight segment in the direction fo the hub to form a U-shaped cross-section. The sensor segment has an undulation between the outer edge of each window and the outer peripheral end of the sensor portion. The depth of the undulation is correlated to the window configuration to produce fingers and window openings laying in a cylindrical or frusto-conical plane.

Performance sensor ring with reduced mass

A speed sensor for sensing a rotating speed of a wheel is provided. The speed sensor includes a thermoplastic sensor body. A mounting ring is connected to the sensor body. The mounting ring can include a flange portion. A plastic insert is integrally molded into the sensor body adjacent the mounting ring. An active sensor element is located in a lower end of the plastic insert, a face of the active sensor element being vertically spaced a predetermined distance from the flange portion. A pair of terminals is electrically connected to the active sensor element. The pair of terminals extends from an upper end of the plastic insert. The flange portion, when pressed onto a hub associated with the wheel, is adapted to space the active sensor element an operating distance from a tone wheel mounted to the hub.

Low cost sensor package for bearing mount

A wire lead strain relief mechanism includes a housing having a first wall and a second wall located in substantially parallel and spaced apart positions. The first wall carries a pair of spaced apart terminals and the second wall includes a generally flat surface with a pair of posts including a first post and a fifth post that are spaced apart a distance further than the terminals are spaced apart. The generally flat surface also has a set of three posts including a second post, a third post, and a fourth post all three positioned substantially in line with the first and fifth posts and substantially centered between the first and fifth posts. A wound coil is carried in the housing between the first and second walls and has a pair of terminal ends each engaging one of the terminals. A first wire lead has an insulating covering and is connected to the first terminal and extends from the first terminal around the first post and then in-between the second and the third posts so that the insulating covering is compressed and loads on the wire lead are attenuated at the first, second and third posts so that the first terminal is relieved from stresses. A second wire lead has an insulating covering and is connected to the second terminal and extends from the second terminal around the fifth post and then in-between the third and the fourth posts so that the insulating covering is compressed and loads on the wire lead are attenuated at the fifth, third and fourth posts so that the second terminal is relieved from stresses.

A rotational velocity sensor ring comprising a circular cylindrical body with a radially interior cylindrical surface, a radially exterior cylindrical surface and first and second cylinder ends, a plurality of substantially equally spaced, substantially equal length fingers extending from the first cylinder end, and on each of the fingers, a substantially 180.degree. bend proximate to the first cylinder end, wherein each finger is radially exterior of the circular cylindrical body, wherein each finger has a finger end extending toward a second cylinder end opposite the first cylinder end, wherein each finger is proximate to the radially exterior cylindrical surface and parallel to a cylinder axis of the circular cylindrical body, wherein the fingers comprise a set of teeth of the rotational velocity sensor ring.

Rotational velocity sensor ring apparatus and method

A sensor ring and seal casing for a wheel speed sensor are maintained as a unit handled package by a specially designed shipping and installation jig, which protects the components before they are installed, and which maintains the components in the proper orientation to be installed.

Easily installed wheel bearing sensor package

A circumferential type wheel speed sensor is axially fitted in removable fashion over a specially designed elastomer sleeve molded to the outside of a cylindrical casing wall. The sleeve also fills in and seals an array of slots cut through the wall, which cooperate with teeth on a flux ring to create a strong signal. The sensor can be removed for service without removing or creating exposing openings through the seal.

Servicable wheel speed sensor assembly

A self crimping retention sleeve is slipped over the end of a bearing shaft and closely over a pair of race piece keeper rings and deformed radially inwardly into a shaft retention groove by the application of an axial force inwardly on the sleeve, allowing the sleeve to be installed with very limited radial access.
