A vacuum cleaner includes: a sensor configured to generate sensor signals based on sensed motion and orientation of the vacuum cleaner; a human-computer interface, HCI; and a controller configured to: process the generated sensor signals to determine a type of cleaning activity being performed by a user using the vacuum cleaner; and control the HCI to provide a recommendation to the user of the vacuum cleaner in dependence on the determined type of cleaning activity.

Vacuum cleaner

A vacuum cleaner includes: a vacuum motor; a first sensor configured to generate first sensor signals based on sensed motion and orientation of the vacuum cleaner; a cleaner head comprising an agitator; one or more diagnostic sensors configured to generate second sensor signals based on sensed parameters of the cleaner head; and a controller configured to: process the generated first and second sensor signals to determine a type of surface on which the vacuum cleaner is being operated; and control the power of the vacuum motor in dependence on the determined type of surface.

A vacuum cleaner includes: a vacuum motor; one or more sensors configured to generate sensor signals associated with the vacuum cleaner; and a controller configured to: process the generated sensor signals using a surface type model defining a mapping between generated sensor signals and surface types to determine a type of surface on which the vacuum cleaner is being operated; control the power of the vacuum motor in dependence on the determined type of surface; and update the surface type model based on the generated sensor signals and/or the determined type of surface.

A vacuum cleaner includes a suction nozzle for drawing dirty air into the vacuum cleaner and an exhaust for expelling cleaned air out of the vacuum cleaner; and an air flow passage extending from the suction nozzle to the exhaust through a dirt separator. The vacuum cleaner further includes a vacuum motor arranged to draw a flow of air through the vacuum cleaner from the suction nozzle to the exhaust, the vacuum motor comprising an electric motor and an impeller which rotates about a motor axis. The vacuum cleaner further includes an electronic visual display configured to display information relating to the vacuum cleaner. The vacuum motor is housed inside a motor bucket which is positioned in the flow passage, and the electronic visual display is mounted to the motor bucket and supported thereby.

A handheld vacuum cleaner includes a pistol grip which is positioned generally transverse to a longitudinal axis of the vacuum cleaner that runs from a front end to a rear end thereof. It also includes an air inlet positioned forward of the pistol grip, and a vacuum motor configured to draw dirty air into a dirt separator of the vacuum cleaner through the air inlet and exhaust clean air from the vacuum cleaner through an air outlet. The handheld vacuum cleaner further includes an electronic visual display which faces generally rearwards. The handheld vacuum cleaner may be part of a stick vacuum cleaner.

A handle assembly for a vacuum cleaner that includes a handle attached to a duct assembly. The duct assembly includes a first duct and a second duct, and the first duct pivots relative to the second duct about a pivot axis. The first duct and the second duct each have an arcuate section that arcs about the pivot axis. Pivoting the first duct relative to the second duct then causes the arcuate section of one of the ducts to move in and out of the arcuate section of the other of the ducts.

Handle assembly for a vacuum cleaner

A handle assembly for a vacuum cleaner that includes a handle attached to a duct assembly. The duct assembly includes a first duct and a second duct. The first duct pivots relative to the second duct about a pivot axis, and the first duct and the second duct rotate collectively relative to the handle about a rotation axis. The rotation axis is then orthogonal to the pivot axis.

A cleaner head for a surface treating appliance includes a main body, a front conduit, and a rear conduit. The front conduit includes a front section connected to the main body for rotation relative thereto about a first axis extending rearwardly from the main body and centrally through the front section, a rear elbow section and at least one first connector. The rear conduit includes a front elbow section into which the rear elbow section of the front conduit is inserted, a rear section and at least one second connector connected to said at least one first connector to enable the rear conduit to pivot relative to the front conduit about a second axis which is orthogonal to the first axis and which lies outside a fluid flow path passing through the front conduit and the rear conduit.
