The present invention provides curing agent compositions comprising alkylated polyalkylene polyamine compounds. Amine-epoxy compositions and articles produced from these amine-epoxy compositions are also disclosed.

Alkylated polyalkylene polyamines and uses thereof

The present disclosure provides polyamides and amidoamine curing agents including the reaction product of (1) a modified amine component comprising at least one multifunctional amine of structure 1: wherein Ris selected from C-Clinear, cyclic, and branched alkyl, alkenyl, and alkaryl groups; Rand Rare hydrogen, Ris Ror hydrogen, X, Y, and Z are independently selected from C-Calkylene, hexylene and cycloalkylene groups, n=0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7; and (2) a fatty acid component. Exemplary fatty acid components include at least one of monomer fatty acids, dimer fatty acids, trimer fatty acids, polymer fatty acids, esters of monomer, dimer, trimer, and polymer fatty acids and combinations thereof. The method for making the curing agents and articles formed therefrom are also disclosed.

Polyamides and amidoamines from selectively modified amine amines

This invention relates to improved polyepoxide resins cured with a mixture of methylene bridged poly(cycloaliphatic-aromatic)amines and a process for preparing such polyepoxide resins as well as to the methylene bridged poly(cycloaliphatic-aromatic)amine compositions and a method of making them. The improvement resides in using a curative (herein referred to as 'Heavy MPCA') comprised of the partially hydrogenated condensation product of formaldehyde and aniline or methyl substituted aniline containing a substantial amount (from 35 to 85% by weight, preferably 40 to 60% by weight) of oligomers in the form of 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15 aniline or methyl substituted aniline derivatives.

Hydrogenation of methylenedianiline homologs and epoxy resins cured with same

Compositions of amine terminated polyamidoamine resins useful for curing epoxy resins are disclosed comprising combinations of fatty monocarboxylic acids, aromatic mono- and dicarboxylic acids, and polyethyleneamines, wherein the ratio of equivalents of fatty monocarboxylic acid to aromatic monocarboxylic acid can range from about 1:0.2 to about 1:1.5, the ratio of equivalents of monocarboxylic acids to aromatic dicarboxylic acid can range from about 1:0.1 to about 1:0.6, and the ratio of moles of total polyamine to equivalents of total acid can range from about 0.8:1 to about 1.3:1. Coating compositions comprising these polyamidoamine resins are also disclosed.

Polyamidoamine curing agents based on mixtures of fatty and aromatic carboxylic acids

Hybrid polymeric compositions of epoxy resin and vinyl acetate polymer are combined in an aqueous emulsion also containing an emulsifying agent and isophoronediamine as a hardener for the epoxy resin. The emulsion is stable for long periods of time but can be cast and cured at room temperature, providing a one-pot system for the preparation of protective coatings, laminating adhesives, and the like. The vinyl acetate polymer must be emulsion polymerized independently of the epoxy resin and is preferably a copolymer of vinyl acetate with ethylene or n-butyl acrylate. The pot life of these hybrid polymer emulsions containing the epoxy hardening agent is at least one month and frequently as long as a year.

This invention pertains to epoxy resins having increased chemical resistance to solvents, and good cured mechanical properties which are prepared by curing the epoxy resins with a curing agent comprising a mixture of methylene bridged poly(cyclohexyl-aromatic)amines. The methylene bridged poly(cyclohexyl-aromatic)amine curing agents are the residue obtained from the distillation of a mixture of poly(cyclohexylaromatic)amines formed by the hydrogenation of crude methylenedianiline or crude di(4-amino-3-methylcyclohexyl)methane.
