In a method of configuring a cell for operation in a wireless communication network, a determinable neighborhood of cells within the network is used for cell configuration. In the method, a neighborhood of cells is selected for the given cell to be configured. Data is acquired from cells of the selected neighborhood, and configuration settings for the given cell are determined based on the acquired data.

Methods of configuring cells in a network using neighborhoods and method of dynamically configuring cells in a network using neighborhoods

The invention includes a method and apparatus for creating a base station neighbor list at a target base station in a wireless network including a plurality of base stations. A method includes obtaining information for creating the base station neighbor list, creating the base station neighbor list using the obtained information, and storing the base station neighbor list. The obtained information includes at least one of geographic locations of ones of the base stations, network status information associated with the wireless network, and pilot signal strength measurement feedback information. The base station neighbor list includes a subset of the base stations of the network. The base stations of the base station neighbor list may be prioritized using at least a portion of the obtained information. The base station neighbor list may be updated periodically, or in response to changes to the obtained information. The base station neighbor list is distributed from the base station to wireless user devices served by the base station for use by the wireless user devices in making handoff decisions.

Method and apparatus for dynamically creating and updating base station neighbor lists

The invention includes methods and apparatuses for supporting mobility management and packet routing in ad hoc wireless networks. A method for mobility management includes detecting, at a first base station, a request by a wireless device to establish an association with the first base station where the first base station comprises a mobile base station, updating an association table of the first base station to include an association of the wireless device to the first base station, and propagating, toward a second base station, a message adapted to update an association table of the second base station, wherein the second base station is a mobile base station, wherein the message is propagated toward the second base station wirelessly. The packet routing functions of the present invention may be used independent of, or in conjunction with, the mobility management functions of the present invention.

Method and apparatus for providing IP mobility and IP routing in ad hoc wireless networks

In a method of performing live monitoring of a wireless communication network, the network may be divided into a plurality of neighborhoods. A neighborhood may be represented by a given cell of interest and one or more neighbor cells of the cell of interest. A desired neighborhood is selected, and one or more given parameters of the selected neighborhood are monitored to evaluate network performance.

In a method of simplifying simulation of a wireless communication network, the network may be divided into one or more neighborhoods. A neighborhood may be represented by a given cell to be evaluated and possibly one or more neighbor cells of the given cell. A desired simulation of one or more of the neighborhoods may be implemented in order to evaluate network performance. The neighborhood may be determined as a function of reverse link interference information, path loss information, or on a geographic distance between cells.

Methods of simplifying network simulation

A method of determining cells for deletion in a network design, in which the network is simulated to generate statistics for each cell of a given group of cells. The statistics of each cell are evaluated based on a given ranking criteria. Based on the evaluation, the cells of the grouped are ranked, with a highest ranked cell being deleted from the network design based on the ranking criteria. The method may enable the selecting of desired cells for deletion, either during site selection of a design for an initial network deployment, or for a network overlay and upgrade of an existing network, in an effort to reduce cell count while maintaining a desired cell coverage in the network.

In the design and/or construction of a wireless communication system, a parameter optimization determination is performed. Such determination is accomplished by first clustering parameters with strong interdependence. In a second operations a subset of the clustered parameters are removed from consideration by imposing constraints on the system and/or on the parameters to yield a similar system determination problem. In a third operation, parameters remaining after the second operation are optimized for a chosen performance metric. Finally, parameters removed in the second operation are optimized for a chosen performance metric with the parameters optimized in the third operation, set to an optimized value determined in the third operation.

Design and construction of wireless systems

A semiconductor device in which hole-induced damage to the dielectric layer is reduced is disclosed. In the device, a layer of a conductive, high bandgap (i.e. a material with a bandgap greater than 1.1 eV) material is formed adjacent to the dielectric layer. The presence of the high bandgap material reduces the hole-induced damage to the dielectric layer that occurs during device operation compared to devices in which the conductive material adjacent to the dielectric is silicon.
