A domain description is received, by a processor, the domain description identifying a domain associated with a sensor input. The domain description is formatted according to a hierarchical naming structure. A training data set is selected from a plurality of training data sets based upon the received domain description and sensor input. A combination of a subset of classifiers for classifying the sensor input is selected from a set of classifiers based upon the selected training data set.

Flexible and self-adaptive classification of received audio measurements in a network environment

Methods and apparatus are provided for distributed rule processing in a sense and respond system. A method for identifying a candidate set of rules is disclosed, comprising the steps of: identifying one or more rules that receive information from one or more sensors to create a first candidate set of rules; evaluating each of the identified rules to identify an initial candidate set of rules, wherein a rule is added to the initial candidate set if a selected device is associated with sensors that are enabled to produce information for the rule being evaluated, if the selected device is enabled to locally provide input information required by the rule being evaluated, and if the rule being evaluated is associated with a group of devices and there are no correlation operators that consume events generated from other devices in the group of devices; and evaluating each rule in the initial candidate set to identify a final candidate set of rules, wherein any rule that receives information from the rule being evaluated is added to the initial candidate set to create the final candidate set if the selected device is enabled to locally satisfy input information required by the rule that receives information and if the rule that receives information is associated with a group of devices and there are no correlation operators that consume events generated from other devices in the group of devices.

Distributed rule processing for ubiquitous computing environments

A method for determining attributes of entities within a physical space. More specifically, the location of the entities in the physical space are determined using this invention. A reader automatically moves throughout the space and takes measurements of the attributes of corresponding entities when it detects the presence of these entities in the physical space. The attributes of the entities could be the location, temperature and so forth. The reader could be an RF detection device for reading signals from the tags attached to the entities.

Method and system for autonomous correlation of sensed environmental attributes with entities

A computer system and method computes conversion rates for individual products and/or product categories in an e-commerce Web site for measuring the effectiveness of the marketing in the Web site, and to associate the conversion rates with metadata information about products and/or product categories on served Web pages. An aggregation process traverses the log to determine the number of one or more of the shopping activities by requesters in the Web site, to compare two or more of the activity numbers in a conversion rate, and to relate the conversion rate to one or more of the metadata fields. The conversion rates give a measure of the effectiveness of the Web site and/or portions of the Web site for sales, marketing and merchandising.

Aggregating and analyzing information about content requested in an e-commerce web environment to determine conversion rates

A system and method to facilitate communications among team members or subscribers using a virtual assistant and a derived points of contact (POC) list to initiate contacts. The virtual assistant automates the task of reaching a party to be contacted through trying a variety of POC options until a connection is established or the options are exhausted. The system takes advantage of the POC provided by a person to be contacted, reducing the burden of maintaining a complete personal contact list by each team member or subscriber. The virtual assistant uses the derived POC list to establish a preferred method for contacting a team member or subscriber.

System and method to facilitate team communication

A server system on a network such as the World Wide Web aggregates and stores information about the content of Web pages served by a server on a network. A server process receives one or more requests for Web pages from requesters connected to the network. Upon receiving the request, the server produces a requested Web page and serves the Web page to the requester. The Web pages have with one or more content elements in addition to one or more metadata entries. The metadata entries are associated with the content elements of the respective Web page produced. The system also creates and maintains a log having a plurality of records. Each record has requester fields and metadata fields. A logger process stores the metadata entries contained in each of the Web pages in one or more of the metadata fields, and stores a requester identification, associated with the requester, in the requester field of the record associated with the respective Web page.

System and method for collecting and analyzing information about content requested in a network (world wide web) environment

A server system on a network such as the World Wide Web aggregates and stores information about the content of one or more Web pages served by a server on a network. A server process receives one or more requests for one or more Web pages from one or more requesters connected to the network. Upon receiving the request, the server produces a requested Web page and serves the Web page to the requester. The Web pages have with one or more content elements in addition to one or more metadata entries. One or more of the metadata entries are associated with the content elements of the respective Web page produced. The system also creates and maintains a log having a plurality of records. Each record has one or more requester fields and one or more metadata fields. A logger process stores the metadata entries contained in each of the Web pages in one or more of the metadata fields, and stores a requester identification, associated with the requester, in the requester field of the record associated with the respective Web page. It comprises two parts: the Web page description field and the hyperlink field list.

System and method for collecting and analyzing information about content requested in a network (World Wide Web) environment

A mobile navigation system implemented as an embedded system in a vehicle is easy to use, does not detract the driver's attention from the road, and limits the number of choices presented to the user of the navigation system according to a predetermined set of preferences or personalized information. Choices are filtered according to a set of driver preferences, according to the vehicle's geographic position, direction of motion, and the driver's intended itinerary. The itinerary, including intermediate stops, is calculated on an external computing system. The information is downloaded from the computing system to a memory device such as, for example, a smart card. The information is then transferred from the smart card to the embedded vehicle navigation system. In one application of the invention, a kiosk located at a car rental agency may be used to create and store personalized navigation information onto a smart card which the customer then inserts into the vehicle navigation system that is installed in the rental car.
