A bacteria referred to here as6A-1 is provided, compositions thereof and processes for use of the bacteria, spores, cells, extracts and enzymes. The compositions which comprise the bacteria, spores, cells, extracts and/or enzymes are capable of degrading polysaccharides. Such compositions are capable of degrading cellulose, including plant-produced cellulose, microcrystalline cellulose and carboxymethyl cellulose. The bacteria produces at least two cellulose-degrading protein fractions. Cellulose degrading activity continues across pH2 to pH13.

Bacteria and enzymes produced therefrom and methods of using same

A mixture of probiotics effective to reduce the contamination of enteric bacteria in humans and other monogastric animals. The mixture of probiotics includes one or more acid-producing bacteria strains and one or more yeast strains, and may advantageously be supplemented with a source of nutrients, such as prebiotics including fructo-oligosaccharides. In a preferred embodiment, said one or more bacteria strains containstrain NCIMB #10415, and said one or more yeast strains contain NCYC #47 and CNCM I-1079.

Probiotic mixture intended for monogastric animals to control intestinal flora populations

A mixture of probiotics effective to reduce the contamination of enteric bacteria in humans and other monogastric animals. The mixture of probiotics includes a lactic acid-producing bacteria and a yeast, and may advantageously be supplemented with a source of nutrients, such as lactose, in certain applications. In a preferred embodiment, the bacterial component is at least one strain of Enterococci, the yeast is at least one strain of Saccharomyces, and a high lactose whey.

An apparatus for measuring radial distances relative to the surface of a cylinder includes a chassis supported on the cylinder by at least three wheels, at least one of which is rotatable about an axis different from the axes about which the remaining wheels rotate, and all of which are spaced from one another in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis of the cylinder. A gauge is provided for measuring radial distances relative to the surface of the cylinder when the chassis is supported on the cylinder by the wheels, the gauge being supported on the chassis in such a way as to allow adjustment both of the height of the gauge relative to the chassis and of the position of the gauge relative to the chassis in a direction parallel to the axis of the cylinder.
