A phototherapy device includes a high intensity light source secured to a leaky light conducting fiber to leak light along the length of the fiber. The light fiber is illuminated at either or both ends by the light source and the light fiber is generally oriented in a 3-D spiral pattern to form a dome of light to provide phototherapy to an area of a patient's scalp to be treated. A generally hemispherical shell is formed of a first or inner translucent diffuser layer secured to a second or outer reflective layer, the first and second layers encapsulating the 3-D non-overlapping spiral pattern light fiber. A control system is also provided to turn off the light source when a break or discontinuity occurs in the fiber.

Embedded fiber phototherapy light cap

A method and device for administering minoxidil and other topical solutions to the scalp. The method entails administering a minoxidil preparation through a manifold that fits over the scalp of a patient, and placing a moisture barrier over the scalp for a period of time effective to enhance absorption of the minoxidil preparation by the scalp.

Ventilated device for delivery of agents to and through the human scalp

An animal feeder includes a housing including a bottom wall and a peripheral wall. A cover is removably positionable over an opening defined by an upper edge of the peripheral wall for selectively opening or closing the housing. Each of a pair of mounts is positioned on the peripheral wall. A funnel is positioned in the housing and includes a spout extending outwardly through the bottom wall. A plate has an upper side that has a central area having a raised portion thereon. Each of a plurality of rods has a first end attached to the bottom wall and a second end attached to the plate such that the spout is vertically aligned with the raised portion. A limb mounting assembly includes a pair of male couplers for attaching to the mounts and a tether for selectively hanging the housing.

Animal feeder

Imaging systems, containing at least one charge-coupled device detector, are used for determining contamination of foodstuffs, such as for example, animal carcasses. Image processing algorithms allow for the identification of contaminants.

Method and system for contaminant detection during food processing

The present invention relates to umbrellas having various canopy shapes which shapes can be altered during use. A multiple position rib formed of a telescoping rib girder in combination with a hub slide assembly with multiple hubs allow the umbrella to be opened to two or more functional positions. An embodiment is an umbrella that can be used as a car shade having two open canopy configurations. In a first open position, all multiple position ribs are in an extended position so that the umbrella serves as a conventional rain umbrella. In a second open position, at least one of the multiple position ribs is folded to allow the umbrella to fit inside a vehicle windshield thereby serving as a sun shade. The multiple position rib can be formed of a rigid inner support assembly and a flexible outer cantilevered assembly. Flex strength properties of the outer cantilevered assembly can be varied within a rib and between ribs to provide a stable frame for certain unconventionally shaped umbrellas, including domes with flattened centers, asymmetric rib configurations, and ribs of differing lengths. Flex strength properties of the outer cantilevered assembly can be also varied to increase the flexibility of rib ends without compromising open canopy integrity. On contact rib ends can bend down toward the pole altering the shape of the canopy perimeter. The rib ends can return to their original positions when contact is terminated.

Configurable umbrella

This invention is a portable device for cleaning air ducts, other parts of ventilation systems, and similar spaces. The device prevents motor burn-out by providing an adjustable slipping means in the transmission connecting the motor's shaft to a cleaning tool.

Portable drive unit for rotational cleaning tools

A system for cleaning building ductwork utilizing the equipment generally used to clean carpets. The system utilizes the vacuum unit and liquid waste tank from a carpet cleaning system. A flexible hose runs between the waste tank and the building ductwork. A water injection system is connected to the hose and is used to spray a stream of water into the air flowing through the flexible ductwork which will entrap any particles contained therein. The 'dirty' water flowing out of the hose will flow to the waste tank for collection and disposal.

Ductwork cleaning system

An outdoor sign construction comprising an inverted U-shaped wire frame and a rectangular corrugated plastic face panel. The sign face panel is retained on a horizontal header section of the frame between vertical frame legs by a resilient extruded plastic channel assembled around the header and out the top edge of the panel. The panel can be allowed to swing on the frame header or can be fixed against such movement by optional brackets. A secondary header and auxiliary sign panel can be assembled on the frame.

Sign construction

A portable roll-up sign having a simplified and economical construction. The sign face is a flexible pvc based sheet that can be imaged on both sides with vinyl graphics or silk screen inks. The sign frame comprises two vertical legs and an intermediate header, all field assembled by mutual interlocking without fasteners or tools. Vertical edges of the face sheet are joined to respective legs by the sign manufacturer by wrapping the same through at least a full turn and clamping with specially shaped retaining clips.

Roll-up sign

An edging system for separating grass of a lawn from landscaping features thereof. The inventive device includes a plurality of linear members and a plurality of corner members which can be interconnected into a desired orientation. The members each include a vertical plate positionable into the lawn, and a horizontal plate projecting from an interior of the vertical plate which limits insertion of the vertical plate and maintains the same in a vertical orientation.

Landscape edging system

The present invention relates to a method for inducing myocardial cell proliferation. It is based, at least in part, on the discovery that adult human myocardial cells may be induced to proliferate in culture by exposure to a platelet freeze/thaw extract. The present invention provides for a method for inducing myocardial cell proliferation in vitro, as well as for myocardial cell cultures produced by this method. In a preferred embodiment, the invention provides for human myocardial cell cultures. The myocardial cell cultures of the invention may be used to study the physiology of cardiac muscle. In addition, they may be used to identify pharmaceutical agents that may be useful in the treatment of heart disease or, alternatively, agents that are cardiotoxic. Furthermore, the cultures of the invention may be used to provide myocardial cells that may be transplanted or implanted in a patient that suffers from a cardiac disorder. In further embodiments, the present invention also provides for a method for inducing myocardial cell proliferation in vivo. Such methods may be used in the treatment of patients suffering from cardiac disorders, particularly those who have suffered damage or loss of cardiac muscle tissue.

Method for inducing human myocardial cell proliferation

The present invention provides methods for isolating and culturing human myocardiocytes from adult human atrial tissue and proliferating cultures resulting therefrom. In one embodiment, the myocardial cells are substantially dissociated through sequential enzymatic digestion and plated on growth medium selective for myocardial cell growth. In another embodiment, the atrial tissue is subjected to only limited digestion to provide an explant tissue portion which is cultured under conditions favoring cell proliferation. Cells migrating from the explant are isolated and subjected to time-based selective attachment and selective growth techniques which result in a myocardial cell culture of approximately 93% purity.

Method of isolation, culture and proliferation of human atrial myocytes

Disclosed herein is a rural mailbox indicator and security lock including an elongated rod designed to be moved between three positions, a first position indicating that the box is unlocked but no mail is there for pick-up, a second position wherein the box is open and mail is in the box to be picked up and a third position indicating that the box is securely locked against unauthorized entry. The elongated rod is rotatably mounted on a cam which is adjacent a locking mechanism, with the cam having a cut out portion designed to receive a latch of the locking mechanism in the third mentioned position of the elongated rod described above, with the cam further including an arcuate rim designed to interengage with a catch formed on the mail box door so that in the position of the elongated rod corresponding to locked condition, the door is prevented from being opened until the locking mechanism is released by a key.

Rural mail box indicator and security lock

A boat having a plurality of separable water-tight transverse sections combined end-to-end to form a hull assembly. A pair of tendons extend longitudinally along the hull assembly and are attached to the bow and stern sections. The tendons follow goedetic lines along opposite sides of the longitudinal center line of the hull below the waterline and below the neutral axis.

The center body occupies a volume in which turbulence would otherwise occur. At least one side branch resonator is disposed within the center body to attenuate resonance produced by said fan in a particular frequency band.
