A method in a client device of mitigating connection impact on network infrastructure includes: storing a record of network disconnection events; prior to initiating a network connection, determining whether the record of network disconnection events contains an indication of a local disconnection event; when the record of network disconnection events contains an indication of a local disconnection event, generating and transmitting a scanning request message containing a disconnect indicator; responsive to receiving a response to the scanning request message, determining whether a number of entries in the record of network disconnection events exceeds a threshold; when the number of entries in the record of network disconnection events exceeds the threshold, incrementing a connection interval according to a backoff interval; and sending a connection request message upon expiry of the connection interval.

Methods and systems for mitigating connection impact on network infrastructure

Techniques are provided for selecting an access point (AP) to communicate with from a plurality of candidate access points (APs) when a wireless computing device (WCD) roams in a wireless local area network (WLAN). The WCD stores a pairwise master key (PMK) for each access point that the WCD has previously established a PMK with during authentication. The WCD a plurality of candidate access points and determines an AP statistic (APS) associated with each candidate AP. The WCD then determines an AP rating for each candidate AP based on the APS for the candidate AP and whether the wireless computing device has a pairwise master key stored for the candidate AP. The WCD then selects a particular one of the candidate APs having the highest AP rating as a desired AP of the wireless computing device.

Selecting an access point from a plurality of access points

A system and/or a method that facilitates enhancing security in a wireless network for a mobile device that can connect to an access point by providing the mobile device with an association control list for intrusion protection is provided. A mobile device can utilize a wireless connection with at least one access point. In particular, the system includes a security component that utilizes the association control list to provide at least one of a valid access point to which the mobile can connect and a rogue access point to which the mobile device is not to connect, allowing the mobile device to eliminate and/or filter out any harmful access points that can be a potential safety hazard.
