Tones within WiMAX signals are disabled to eliminate interference at third-party receivers. A level of interference is determined between a base station transmitting a WiMAX signal and a third-party receiver. The level of interference is determined based at least on a characteristic of the third-party receiver and the WiMAX signal. One or more tones within the WiMAX signal are determined to disable at the base station to eliminate the interference. The tones are disabled prior to transmitting the WiMAX signal by the base station.

Management of wimax tones to avoid inter-modulation interference

Methods and apparatuses for determining uplink receive signal path characteristics in a wireless communication system are disclosed. In one embodiment, a tower-top noise source (TTNS) is provided such that it is permanently affixed in close proximity to a receive antenna. The TTNS preferably has an output that includes a wideband noise signal having predetermined characteristics. The TTNS output is selectively connected to a receive signal path that includes a tower-top low-noise amplifier (TTLNA). An altered version of the wideband noise signal is received at the output of the receive signal path, and a characteristic of the altered wideband noise signal is measured.

Methods and apparatuses for providing a stable wideband noise signal

A method, system, and computer-readable media are provided for disabling tones within WiMAX signals in order to eliminate interference at third-party receivers. The method includes identifying signal to protect for a receiver, and identifying characteristics of the receiver. The method further includes identifying WiMAX signals transmitted by a base station located in a geographic region that can interfere with the protected signals. Additionally, the method includes determining an interference level between the receiver and the base station based on the protected signals, the characteristics of the receiver, and the WiMAX signals. Moreover, the method includes providing a list of tones that are to be disabled within the WiMAX signal in order to eliminate the interference level.

A method and system for protecting a LNA by acquiring a radio frequency control channel signal at a tower top low noise amplifier (TTLNA) system. In response to acquiring the radio frequency control channel signal, LNA mode information is determined from the acquired radio frequency control channel signal. Based at least in part on the determination, the TTLNA is configured to either receive mode when the LNA mode information indicates receive mode or transmit mode when the LNA mode information indicates transmits mode. In an exemplary embodiment, the TTLNA is configured to receive mode only after a determination is made that there is no transmit energy present on the feedline connecting the BTS and the antenna. In another exemplary embodiment, the TTLNA is initialized in transmit mode.

Method and system for configuring a tower top low noise amplifier

Controlling a tower-top low noise amplifier (TTLNA) without transmit mode or receive mode timing control signals from a base station. The TTLNA system and associated components autonomously determine the proper mode of operation (transmit/receive), and automatically control the operation of a low noise amplifier (LNA) to prevent signal distortion and/or damage to the wireless system hardware. A preferred method comprises: at a TTLNA, measuring a transmit time period based on detecting radio frequency (RF) transmit signal energy; determining a receive time duration based on the measured time period and a predetermined frame time; and, configuring the TTLNA to a receive mode by placing a low noise amplifier into a receive signal path during the determined receive time duration.

A surge-protection system for vertically supporting a plurality of surge-arrestor modules is provided. Initially, the system includes the following elements: the plurality of surge-arrestor modules, which function to regulate surges between telecommunication devices; and a mounting-frame assembly inter-disposed between a wall and each of the plurality of surge-arrestor modules. The plurality of surge-arrestor modules includes a housing with sidewalls and in substantially parallel-spaced relation, and a front panel and a rear panel, wherein the panels span between the first sidewall and the second sidewall. Additionally, the surge-arrestor modules include signal port(s) integrated within the sidewalls, socket(s) integrated within the rear panel, and a circuit board internally disposed within the housing that creates a signal path between the signal port(s). The mounting-frame assembly includes grounding connector(s) that outwardly extend and are adapted to insert within the socket(s), respectively, of each surge-arrestor module thereby vertically supporting each module in frictional engagement.
