An oil well pumping unit. The pumping unit has a vertical support column residing adjacent a horizontal support base at a generally transverse orientation. The pumping unit has a standing sheave fixed proximate an upper end of the vertical support column, a carrier bar configured to be attached to a polished rod along the front face of the vertical support column, and a traveling sheave configured to move up and down along the vertical support column. A near-vertical actuator resides along the horizontal support base, and is connected to the traveling sheave. Cyclical movement of the linear actuator causes the traveling sheave to reciprocate up and down along the vertical support column such that upward movement of the traveling sheave produces a downstroke of the polished rod, while downward movement of the traveling sheave produces an upstroke of the polished rod. The linear actuator remains in tension at all times during movement of the polished rod.

Rod pumping surface unit

A method for autonomous testing of traveling valve assembly leakage and standing valve leakage for an oil or gas rod pumped well installation, and for autonomous adjustment of one or more pump operation characteristics based upon the autonomous test results. Traveling valve assembly leakage testing includes autonomous stopping and holding of the polished rod during an upstroke, autonomous determination of a rate of change in the polished rod load, and autonomous determination of a traveling valve leakage factor. Standing valve leakage testing includes autonomous stopping and holding of the polished rod stationary during a down stroke after weight transfer, autonomous determination of a rate of change in the polished rod load, and autonomous determination of a standing valve leakage factor.

Method and apparatus for autonomous oil and gas well down-hole pump leakage testing

A hydraulic cylinder assembly for a fluid pump including a cylinder, a bearing attached to an approximate first end of the cylinder, a rod slideably mounted within the bearing, and a piston located about an end of the rod in the cylinder opposite the bearing. A central axis of the rod is offset from, and parallel to, a centerline of the cylinder to impede a rotation of the piston about the rod. The hydraulic cylinder assembly further including a hydraulic pump fluidly connected to the cylinder, the pump configured to provide a hydraulic pressure to the cylinder during an up-stroke of the piston and rod and the pump further configured to generate electricity on the down-stroke of the piston and rod.
