A brushless, three phase wound field synchronous machine (WFSM) provides an electromechanical power transfer system wherein it may serve as both a starter and a generator. Power for the excitation system of the WFSM is provided by a three phase flux switching generator (FSG). The three phase FSG also provides position sensor functionality for the WFSM when the WFSM operates in the starter/motor mode.

A DC/DC converter includes an internal transistor and a current sensor that is operable to sense a current passing through the transistor. The DC/DC converter also includes an output current estimator module that estimates the output current based on the sensed transistor current.

A system for sensing voltage in an isolated converter includes an input circuit isolated from an output circuit using a first transformer, the first transformer having a primary coil and a secondary coil, wherein the output circuit includes an output inductor and an output capacitor, and wherein the input circuit includes a power source that provides power to the output circuit through the first transformer; a feedback winding coupled to the output inductor to form a second transformer; and a monitor circuit that calculates a voltage across the output capacitor using a voltage across the feedback winding, a voltage across the primary coil of the first transformer, a turns ratio of the first transformer, and a turns ratio of the second transformer in order to provide feedback to control the input circuit.

Voltage sensing in isolated converters

A pulsed power source minimizes current ripple disturbance in a main power supply by dividing the pulsed load into a plurality of pulsed sub-loads. The pulsed power source includes a plurality of pulsed load power supplies, each pulsed load power supply receiving charging power from the main power supply and providing pulsed energy to one of the plurality of pulsed sub-loads. Pulsed energy delivered to each of the plurality of pulsed sub-loads is out of phase with the other pulsed sub-loads, resulting in the input current provided by the main power supply having a reduced current ripple magnitude and increased current ripple frequency.

A direct current (DC) remote power controller for remotely controlling DC power between a DC power source and a DC load, comprises: a current sensor for sensing the level of current that the power source supplies to the load and generating a current feedback signal representative of the sensed current level; a current limit controller that compares the current feedback signal to a reference current level and generates a current regulation signal representative of the value of sensed current level above the reference current level; a current limiting device that is responsive to the current regulation signal to limit load current to the reference current level up to a first predetermined level of potential difference across the current limiting device; a load resistance; and a switched-mode DC-to-DC converter in parallel with the current limiting device that senses potential difference across the current limiting device and diverts a portion of the load current from the current limiting device through the load resistance above the first predetermined level of potential difference to reduce power dissipation of the current limiting device and maintain the load current at the reference current level.
