Methods and systems for automatically verifying a hardware design based on a hardware specification document. Hardware descriptions to be designed according to a hardware specification document are created. A document writer can follow a specified procedure including the use of register mao tables, address map tables and register descriptions to create the hardware descriptions. Flags are embedded in the document which document is then saved for use by internal/external engineers. The used document, which has been saved as a text-only file, is read by a document parsing utility which creates a database of hardware components. Physical components of the hardware device can then be compared with elements maintained within the database upon an initial power-up of the hardware device. RTL auto-generation and software auto-generation modules can be used to ensure that the RTL hardware description complies with the hardware specification.

Methods and systems for automatic verification of specification document to hardware design

A method and apparatus for performing efficient reseeks in an optical storage device. As data sectors are read by the optical storage device, address information corresponding to sectors being processed by the optical storage device is stored in a stack. The stack may be composed of shift registers that shift the address information of new sectors down the stack as they are read. When an interrupt occurs, a selector determines which stack location contains address information for the sector being processed, and transfers the address information to a register. The address information is held in the register until it is accessed by a microprocessor. The microprocessor uses the address information to determine a reseek location, and causes the sector being processed to be read again.

Method and apparatus for performing efficient reseeks in an optical storage device

An improved method and apparatus for transferring data in a CD-ROM system. The CD-ROM system includes a buffer manager for identifying the capacity of a buffer memory used to store data from a disc. The buffer manager controls the transfer of data into and out of the buffer memory. Each time a sector of data is transferred from a disc into the buffer memory, a counter is incremented to track the amount of data in the buffer memory. If the counter equals the capacity of the buffer memory, the transfer of data from the disc is halted. Further transfer of data is not allowed until buffer memory is available.

Method and apparatus for streaming data in a data processing system

A method and apparatus for accessing successive memory locations without the need for multiple index register writes and without the need for a wide address bus from the controller into a memory control system. The memory control system includes an index register and a data register. The index register has a connection to the controller and the buffer. The data storage register has a connection to the buffer and to the controller. The index register receives an address to a location in the buffer. Each time the contents of the index register are changed, data associated with the address are automatically written into the data storage register. Each time the data storage register is accessed (read or written), the index register in incremented. The controller is able to read or write unlimited numbers of sequential locations up to the full buffer space, using only a single controller access per byte.

Buffer controller

A method and apparatus for automatically identifying the format of a sector in an optical storage device. Information on an optical disc is separated into data and subcode streams. The type of optical data is identified, and a first signal is generated to represent the type. Next, if the type is CD-ROM, the mode is identified, and a second signal is generated to represent the mode. Thirdly, if the mode is Mode-,CD-ROM, the form is identified, and a third signal is generated to represent the form. A single signal may also be used to represent the type, mode, and form. In a CD embodiment, the type is identified by polling a type indicator bit, the mode is identified by polling the mode indicator bits, and the form is identified by comparing a first set of subheader bytes to a second set of subheader bytes, and polling a form indicator bit.

Method and apparatus for automatic sector format identification in an optical storage device

A method and apparatus for configuring a sector map in an optical storage device. Format identification information is used to generate a sector format word. The sector format word is stored in a sector map in buffer memory. Upon receiving a data retrieval request from a host, the sector format word is decoded, and the data field size is adjusted to conform with the format information contained in the decoded sector format word.
