A process is provided for coating particulate materials with a thermoset polymeric coating that is less prone to creep or abrasion than a thermoplastic coating. The process provides for the coating of water-reactive and water-soluble materials which require a non-aqueous media for processing and also provides for the coating of particulate materials which must be processed in water. Also, all organics may be recovered, and there is no solvent contamination of water. It is emphasized that this abstract is provided to comply with the rules requiring an abstract that will allow a searcher or other reader to quickly ascertain the subject matter of the technical disclosure. It is submitted with the understanding that it will not be used to interpret or limit the scope of the claims.

Thermosetting coatings for particulate materials and methods of application

A recyclable energetic composition and method of processing energetic compositions cured by cyclo-addition of azido groups of the polymer binder with di- and/or tri-acetylene curatives (components) to form triazole linkages, such that the cure reaction is accelerated or delayed at will without degradation, allowing storage and later recycling of unused material for reduction of hazardous waste, and reduction of pollution.

Triazole crosslinked polymers in recyclable energetic compositions and method of preparing the same

This invention relates to energetic compositions, which offer increased performance in conjunction with a total absence of hydrogen chloride in the combustion products. The formulation avoids the use of halogen based oxidizers to prevent the formation of halogen based byproducts. The formulations disclosed herein use ammonium dinitramide as a primary oxidizer, which is a more energetic molecule than ammonium perchlorate. The solid propellant formulations disclosed herein comprise about 5 to about 10 weight % of at least one energetic binder, about 20 to about 35 weight % of an energetic plasticizer; about 25 to about 45 weight % of ammonium dinitramide as a primary oxidizer; about 0 to about 20 weight % of particulate aluminum having a particle size of about 1 &mgr;m to about 60 &mgr;m; and about 0 to about 20 weight % of ultrafine aluminum having a particle size of less than 1 &mgr;m.

In addition to the ingredients in this basic formulation will be cure catalysts, curatives, crosslinkers, burn rate catalysts and modifiers, thermal and aging stabilizers other such ingredients commonly utilized in solid propellant formulations.

ADN stabilizers of aromatic nitrogen-containing heterocyclic organic compounds, such as pyridines, pyrimidines, pyrazines, and triazines substituted with amino, hydroxy or other activating groups. The stabilizers being added to the ADN in an amount of from about 0.001 weight percent to about 5 weight percent of the ADN.
