A valve seat for a ball valve. The valve seat having a valve seat body with a circumferential concave seating surface configured to mate with a curvature of the valve ball. A seal pocket formed within the valve seat body, the seal pocket having (i) an throat formed in the concave seating surface, (ii) an outer pocket sidewall, and (iii) an inner pocket sidewall. A retaining groove positioned below the throat on either the outer pocket sidewall or the inner pocket sidewall and a flexible seal element shaped for positioning in the seal pocket. The seal element includes (i) an extended lip configured to rest within the retaining groove when the seal element is seated in the seal pocket, and (ii) a sealing face with an upper end laying below the valve seat's concave seating surface and a mid-portion extending upward above a curvature path of the concave seating surface.

A method of actuating a valve which includes (i) a valve housing with two opposing stem apertures including a first diameter neck wall and a second, larger diameter shoulder wall; (ii) a valve stem positioned within each of the stem apertures, the valve stems including a neck section and a shoulder section engaging the neck wall and the shoulder wall, respectively; (iii) wherein the valve stems have (1) an overall length L which does not extend substantially beyond the stem aperture, and (2) a shoulder engagement length L2 which is at least 20% of L; (iv) wherein a diameter of the neck section is between about 1.5/1000 if an inch and about 7/1000 of an inch less than a diameter of the first diameter neck wall and a diameter of the shoulder section is between about 1.5/1000 of an inch and about 7/1000 of an inch less than a diameter of the second diameter shoulder wall; and (v) wherein a surface portion of the valve stems are formed of a bearing material with hardness of less than the walls of the stem apertures. The method includes the steps of first engaging the valve stems of the valve with an actuator in a manner that a portion of a weight of the actuator is imparted to the valve stems; and then applying torque to the valve stems using the actuator.

Low friction valve stem

A tool joint clamp which includes a clamp assembly and a stop ring. The clamp assembly has at least two die carriers, with each die carrier having a translating and pivoting link between the die carriers such that the die carriers may move toward and away from a centerline of the clamp assembly. The stop ring includes a ring body having a central aperture forming an internal sidewall, with at least a portion of the internal sidewall having splines. A cam surface and cam follower are positioned between the clamp assembly and the stop ring, with the cam surface and cam follower configured to urge the die carriers toward the clamp assembly's centerline when relative torque is applied between the clamp assembly and the stop ring.

In the specification and drawings a flowhead assembly is described and shown with a flow adapter positioned within a through bore of the flowhead assembly housing; a first ball valve and second ball valve located above the flow adapter; a spacer assembly positioned between the first and second ball valve; at least one side flow entry attachment fluidly connected with the through bore of the flowhead assembly. The sideflow entry attachment includes a first and second ball valve located in a central passage in the sideflow entry attachment housing, with a spacer assembly positioned between them; a flow guide insert is positioned above the ball valves and includes a flow path that is in fluid communication with the through bore of the flowhead assembly; a plug retains the flow guide insert within the central passage. Also described and shown is a frac head assembly including a flow adapter that has chamfered internal surfaces surrounding side entry apertures.

In the specification and drawings, a valve is described and shown having a first and second valve seat carrier, a valve seat associated with each valve seat carrier, and a valve ball between the valve seats. The valve further includes a stop mechanism operatively connected to at least a first valve seat, the stop mechanism limiting travel of the first valve seat towards the valve ball such that the valve ball may be push away from a sealing engagement with the first valve seat.

In the specification and drawings a valve is described and shown with a lower valve seat; an upper valve seat; a bracket, the bracket having a first tongue engaged with the upper valve seat; a valve ball located between the lower valve seat and the upper valve seat, the lower valve seat, the valve ball, and the upper valve seat being located within the bracket; and a ring located about the upper valve seat, the ring having a first recessed portion and a first extended portion, the ring having a first ring position in which the first tongue is unobstructed by the first recessed portion and a second ring position in which the first tongue is obstructed by the first extended portion, the ring being rotatable between the first ring position and the second ring position.

Valve apparatus and method

A power tong having a ring gear, a gear train, a motor and a gear shift mechanism. The gear shift mechanism further includes a linear actuator and a shift arm connect to the linear actuator. A drive gear is positioned on a drive shaft extending from the motor and this drive gear includes an upper and lower set of drive teeth having beveled top portions. The shift arm engages the drive gear between the upper and lower set of drive teeth and movement of the linear actuator causes the drive gear to engage one of at least two gears in the gear train.

An improved snubbing unit including a snubbing unit base, a lifting assembly having a platform positioned above the base, a rotary table positioned on the snubbing unit, and a first slip assembly positioned on the rotary table. The first slip assembly further includes a base plate with a center aperture formed therein, at least two separate slip frames positioned on the base plate around the center aperture, wherein each of the slip frames includes a slip surface, and a die carrier positioned within each of the slip frames, wherein each of the die carriers also includes a surface for engagement with the slip surfaces of said slip frames. Additionally, a second slip assembly will be positioned on the snubbing unit.

Low friction slip assembly

A jaw adapter for use in a pivoting jaw power tong having a cage plate designed to house a pivoting jaw member. The jaw adapter includes an adapter body shaped to fit between the cages plates of a pivoting jaw power tong. The adapter body further includes a pin assembly for engaging at least one of the cage plates, and the adapter body still further includes a sliding jaw passage. A jaw assembly is then positioned within the sliding jaw passage.

A snubbing unit drilling system which includes a power tong and a hydraulically activated back-up tong. A mounting structure having a rotating slip assembly positioned thereon such that the rotating slip assembly rotates relative to the mounting structure. A plurality of support legs are attached between the power tong, the back-up tong, and the mounting structure such that the support legs prevent relative rotation between the power tong and the mounting structure.
