A new group of disazo sulphophenylpyrazolone-sulphostilbene compounds useful as orange-hued dyes for cellulosics having excellent color stability over a wide range of pH. When mixed with certain direct blue dyes and also with combinations of certain direct blue and yellow dyes, they form dye mixtures that are highly soluble in water and can effectively function as uniquely stable liquid black paper dyes which do not change hue over a wide range of pH conditions, thereby simplifying the problem of the dyer in matching and maintaining uniformity of hue.

Disazo sulfophenylpyrazolone-sulfostilbene dyes

This invention relates to new compounds having the structure: ##STR1## wherein M is H, Na, K, Li, N(R).sub.3 H and R is H, lower alkyl or lower hydroxy alkyl and R.sub.1 is oxygen, sulfur, imino, lower alkylimino, cyanoimino and carbamoylimino moieties. The new compounds are useful as fluorescent greenish-yellow dyes for paper.

Sulfonated naptho[1,2]triazole azo barbituric acid derivatives

This invention relates to a new group of trisazo compounds that are useful as direct dyes for cellulosic textiles, paper and leather; imparting a black coloration thereto. The new dye is intended to replace the widely used paper dye known as C.I. Direct Black 38--a dye synthesized from an intermediate (benzidine) whose use is being curtailed because it is a known carcinogen.
