An improved agglutination immunoassay is characterized by reacting a sample fluid which may contain an analyte with a generic antibody conjugated to latex particles and then adding an antibody specific to the analyte to be determined. Agglutination resulting from adding the antibody specific to the analyte is measured and correlated with the amount of analyte in the sample.

Generic method for latex agglutination assays

Identifying a test product having a test region includes impinging on the test region a set of test signals at known test wavelengths. An image of the test region is generated from the reflected signals. The image is comprised of a set of reflectance values that are compared against reference reflectance values at the test signal wavelengths to determine the test product type.

Disclosed is an improvement to a dry assay device for determining the concentration of a first analyte in a sample of body fluid and a second analyte in the same sample of body fluid. The device involves the use of a strip of an absorbent material through which the sample of body fluid flows and wherein the first analyte is determined colorimetrically in a first region of the strip and the second analyte is determined by an immunoassay which takes place in a second region of the strip located downstream from the first region. The improvement involves placing the strip in a hollow casing having a top and a bottom and which is so constructed that when the top and bottom of the casing are mated there is formed a U shaped, body fluid impervious barrier around the first region of the strip to prevent the sample of body fluid from flowing in any direction other than in the direction of the second region of the strip.

Device for carrying out lateral-flow assays involving more than one analyte

A method is provided for purifying uricase by decreasing the amount of active catalase present. The method involves adjusting the pH of a catalase-containing uricase preparation to a pH in the range of about 11 to 13 to inactivate the catalase and recovering a uricase preparation substantially free of active catalase.
