The present invention provides monomers, analogs, and/or derivatives of bisphenols substituted with one or more fluoromethyl groups. These monomers, analogs, and/or derivatives can be used to form oligomers and/or polymers, which in turn can be used to make compounds with dielectric properties suitable for dielectric materials, including for example, use in energy dense capacitors. In a preferred embodiment, the compounds can comprise a polycarbonate of a homopolymer, copolymer, and/or terpolymer of a bisphenol with one or more fluoromethyl substitution groups. In an aspect of the invention the compounds chosen can be selected based on various desired characteristics, including, for example, their energy density, glass transition temperature, dielectric loss, and/or dipole density.

The present invention is a high modulus bio-based polymer plastic composition or mixture and methods of preparing the same. The composition is formed from the reaction of a bio-based epoxidized triglyceride oil, an energy activated catalyst and a bio-based non-aromatic cross-linking compound to form a structural polymer plastic. The bio-based epoxidized triglyceride oil is selected from a bio-based epoxidized triglyceride or a bio-based acrylated epoxidized triglyceride. The non-aromatic cross-linking compound is selected from itaconic acid or itaconic anhydride, and the energy activated catalyst is activated by UV radiation or heat.

High modulus bio-based polymer formulations

The present invention relates to a miscible transparent polymer blend, specifically, a polycarbonate blend which comprises homopolycarbonates and/or copolycarbonates. In particular, high aspect ratio monomers confer unique miscibility properties on polycarbonates. Miscible, transparent blends have been found to form from polycarbonate mixtures containing as components of the mixture (1) polycarbonates of bisphenol A monomers copolymerized with a variety of bisphenols, and (2) polycarbonates containing high aspect ratio monomers.

Aryl esters and thioesters of indole-3-alkanoic acids, such as indole-3-acetaic acid and indole-3-butyric acid, are prepared by chemical reaction of the acid with a phenol, substituted phenol, or thiophenol in a tertiary amine solvent. A phosphorus or sulfur halide in a suitable solvent is added dropwise to the cold amine solution. The reaction produced is separated and purified by standard methods. Phenyl-indole-3-thiolobutyrate as well as other aryl esters of indole-3-alkanoic acids is effective as an auxin plant growth regulator and adventitious root initiator.

An aryl amine or substituted aryl amine is substituted for phenol in the reaction mixture when the N-phenyl or N-substituted phenyl indolyl-3-acetamide or butyramide is the desired product. N-phenyl or N-substituted phenyl indolyl-3-acetamides are particularly effective as auxin plant growth regulators and adventitions root initiators.
