A system, method and computer program product for providing a secure data channel between a user and associates. The method may receive pushed information from an associate, including, e.g., an update to the user profile information, related information, or personalized content for the user. The method can convey to the user, personal information including a selectable union of the user profile information, the related information, and/or the personalized content. The method can further share access to the personal information to a family, where the family can include another user, users, or multiple related users. The pushed information can include textual, digitized audio, digitized video, graphical image, or other data, and can include prescription, automobile service, or purchased product information, or voicemail messages.

System, method and computer program product for gathering and delivering personalized user information

A system, method and computer program product for providing a secure data channel between a user and associates for receiving at a processing server, from a user, user profile information, family definitions, and/or a hardware signature. The method may receives pushed information from an associate, including, e.g., an update to the user profile information, related information, or personalized content for the user. The method can convey to the user, personal information including a selectable union of the user profile information, the related information, and/or the personalized content. The method can convey information to the user. The method can share access to the personal information to a family. The method can also provide cumulative aggregate user profile information to the associate.

A computer system having a video display runs an operating system that provides a desktop environment to a user and a file system. The desktop environment has associated systems settings that affect the desktop environment. In this method, a first set of values for at least a portion of the system settings are stored in a storage device in a computer network so that the first set of values is visible in the file system. A second set of values, for the same portion of the system settings for which values are stored in the first set of values, is also stored in the storage device such that the second set of values is visible in the file system. In response to a choice by the user between the first set of values and the second set of values, the system settings are updated to have the values specified by the chosen set of values.

Aggregation of system settings into objects

Enhanced folder racks have a number of improved capabilities, including the ability to lock a folder rack to limit access to objects held therein. The enhanced folder racks are logically partitioned to a number of slots. Each slot may hold one or more objects that are not limited solely to documents. When a slot holding multiple objects is opened, windows for each of the objects held within the slot are opened in response. A user may assign labels for each of the slots in a folder rack, and the labels may be independent of the objects held within the slots. A user may choose to configure a folder rack in accordance with a predefined scheme. The system provides a number of predefined schemes that define how many slots are included in a folder rack and predefines the labels for the slots. Each folder rack may include an auxiliary menu that lists the labels of the slots held therein.

Method and system for providing enhanced folder racks

A display arrangement system and method are disclosed for arranging repositionable graphical representations corresponding to a set of computer resources. The display arrangement system includes a layout that specifies a criterion for arranging the repositionable graphical representations. The criterion specifies at least one arrangement rule based upon the content of the computer resources. The display arrangement system also includes a graphical display arrange processor that arranges the repositionable graphical representations by applying the criterion to their corresponding computer resources. Layouts comprise one or more frames. Each frame designates a perimeter on the graphical user interface. Each frame also includes at least one filter property value for limiting the association of individual ones of the set of computer resources with the frame. An example of a particular filter value for a frame is a filter designating only 'document' type computer resources will be associated with a particular frame. The display arrange processor applies the frame filter to the computer resources in order to determine whether corresponding repositionable graphical representations will be displayed within the perimeter on the graphical user interface designated by the frame.

Method and apparatus for arranging displayed graphical representations

A system and method are described for presenting a continuously accessible computer system tool interface. The interface of the present invention comprises a separated applications section and system tray section. The applications section provides a portion of the graphic user interface for running applications programs. The tray section provides an alternative region of the graphic user interface for objects to surface their key features while occupying only a small portion of the display space. The tray section is supported by a Tray Object which provides a frame work for tray aware applications to dock.
