Techniques for generating simulated waveforms for an electric meter include operating a meter in simulation mode without an external load device connected to the meter. Simulated waveforms are generated for a number of channels based on waveform component values. The waveforms are generated at a rate that corresponds to a sample rate of an analog to digital converter (ADC) of the meter. In simulation mode, the waveforms are provided to a meter firmware interface, instead of the waveform data obtained from the ADC.

Generating simulated waveforms for an electric meter when operating in a simulation mode

A system for crosstalk cancelation for electricity metering in a power distribution network is provided. For example, a meter can be used to generate a set of measurement points by measuring electrical signals provided by a reference power device according to a set of source points. Based on the set of source points and the corresponding set of measurement points, a crosstalk cancelation function is derived and stored in the meter. When the meter is deployed at a geographical location and generates a measurement point by measuring the electrical signal on the power distribution network, the meter further applies the crosstalk cancelation function to the measurement point to generate a transformed measurement point. The meter calculates various characteristics of the power distribution network based on the transformed measurement points and transmits the calculated characteristics to a headend system.

An electric meter that is configured to regenerate meter state data after a power loss includes a memory with at least one volatile and non-volatile memory device and a processor connected to the memory. The processor is configured to retrieve a backup copy of meter state data and a plurality of meter input data samples that were generated after the backup copy of the meter state data and prior to the power loss from a nonvolatile memory device. The processor is configured to regenerate meter state data by updating the backup copy of meter state data with the plurality of meter input data samples to regenerate the meter state data at the time of a final meter input data sample prior to the power loss.

Device and method for data preservation and power loss recovery in an electric meter

An electrical energy meter includes an A/D converter and a processing circuit. The A/D converter is configured to generate digital samples of voltage and current waveforms in a polyphase electrical system. The processing circuit is operably coupled to receive the digital samples from the A/D converter and to integrate over time at least one digital sample multiple times to produce a filtered value from which harmonic distortion has been removed, identify a fundamental frequency only electrical parameter measurement for the polyphase electrical system with reference to the filtered value, and store the identified fundamental frequency only electrical parameter measurement in a data store.

A method and apparatus for testing a transformer. A controller generates a switching signal and supplies the switching signal to a solid state switch in circuit with a test load of known magnitude, switching the solid state switch to place the test load in circuit with the transformer. A signal through or across the transformer is then measured. Methods and apparatus for testing a transformer comprise the controller and solid state switch placing a series of test loads of different known magnitudes in circuit with the transformer from the lowest magnitude to the highest, from the highest to the lowest, or both. Additionally, a test load array comprises a plurality of power resistors, a heat sink for accommodating the plurality of power resistors, and a material providing electrical insulation of the power resistors from the heat sink and thermal conductivity between the power resistors and the heat sink.
