A drill sharpener is provided which has a point-splitting port which simplifies the procedure for producing a split point on a drill bit undergoing sharpening. The point-splitting port is positioned relative to a grinding wheel assembly such that, when the drill held by a chuck is advanced toward the grinding wheel, a flute of the drill at the drill tip is brought into contact with the grinding wheel. The port has alignment stops therein which mate with flats provided on the barrel of the chuck to ensure proper alignment of the chuck and drill relative to the grinding wheel. The stops also limit the extent of inward travel of the chuck and drill to a predetermined distance. A debris or grit collection tube is also provided to be inserted into an unused port of the drill sharpener, to contain and confine any debris or grit attempting to exit the sharpener through the unused port.

Drill sharpener

A precision drill sharpener and grinding wheel assembly is provided, as is a corresponding drill chuck for use with the drill sharpener, in which the drill sharpener includes a lever and spring clip alignment subassembly for properly positioning a drill in the drill chuck, and sharpening ports for sharpening the drill and splitting the drill tip, the sharpening ports being positioned such that a single grinding wheel assembly is used to both sharpen the drill and split the tip. The drill sharpener uses a small diameter grinding wheel operated at high speed to provide cutting rates comparable to large industrial sharpeners. The drill chuck is of short length, relative to most of the drills to be sharpened, and is open at the back end, enabling the manipulation of the drill by its shank relative to the drill chuck when disposed in the alignment subassembly.

Precision drill sharpener and grinding wheel assembly therefor

Drill sharpening device

A twist drill sharpener employing a pair of rotary grinding wheels has three primary drill chuck receiving openings, one for alignment of the twist drill and cams on the twist drill chuck; a second receptacle for grinding the end of a chucked twist drill; and a third receptacle which receives the drill and chuck for grinding a split point on the sharpened twist drill.

Precision twist drill sharpener/point splitting machine

An end mill resharpening device is provided which will resharpen the primary and secondary cutting edges of both the flutes and the end of the mill. All of the proper side and end angles, as well as an end 'fish-tail' angle are produced automatically by the unique features of the device. Additional benefits provided include a novel method of making an air bearing, a floating spindle knob and grinding wheel balancer.

End mill sharpener

A substantially universal power feed for a drilling machine has a unique clutching arrangement whereby overloads are substantially eliminated. A further safety feature comprises a shear plate which functions to stop rotation of the power feed in the event of clutch malfunction or over adjustment of the clutch release spring. The power feed is also of the type that the feeders arbor may be rotated with the clutch disengaged from the motor so that the operator has a choice of using the power feed or manually feeding the drill without the necessity of physically removing the power feed from the drilling machine.

Power feed

A fluted twist drill point splitting/web thinning apparatus is disclosed which permits simple point splitting/web thinning of conventional sharpened twist drills. The apparatus is uniquely designed such that either of the two operations, that is point splitting or web thinning, can be simply and accurately carried out with the same assembly. The apparatus also includes the provisions of a grinding wheel dressing diamond mounted on a forward face of the apparatus.

Twist drill point splitting/web thinning apparatus

A relatively low cost twist drill sharpener apparatus employable with a rotary grinding wheel has a twist drill alignment fixture which positions the drill with respect to the drill holding chuck. The twist drill holding chuck has mounted thereto one or a pair of cam elements which cooperate with a sharpener fixture which is adjustable for height, pivotal motion and backward and forward motion relative to the rotary grinding wheel. The fixture has mounted thereto a second cam and is adapted to receive the twist drill chuck and control the grinding of the twist drill when the chuck is pressed toward the face of the grinding wheel and rotated clockwise. The fixture and the chuck are also adapted to receive a wheel dressing element.
