A breastpump is provided with a universal suction hood base that can be used with a set of different shields. An improved shield is further disclosed which is more flexible and conforms more readily to the breast, and also provides massage.

An improved vacuum adjustment mechanism for controlling airflow into a chamber which is subject to negative pressure, such as the chamber of a diaphragm pump which is generating vacuum for a breast shield assembly, has an air inlet conduit communicating with the chamber. A channel is formed in a base member, with the channel having a longitudinal length and a dimension perpendicular to that length. The perpendicular dimension varies from a minimum to a maximum. The channel has a bottom and is open, such as along a channel top. An airhole is formed in the channel bottom at the point of the maximum dimension. A rotary member is mounted on the base member, and has an internal channel extending across the longitudinal length of the base member channel, and overlies the channel top. The internal channel of the rotary member communicates with an air source, such as ambient air. The rotary member serves to move the internal channel along the longitudinal length of the base member channel, to thereby regulate airflow into the base member channel depending upon where the internal channel is positioned between the minimum and maximum dimensions.

Vacuum adjustment mechanism particularly adapted for a breastpump

A device for holding an endotracheal tube in various positions in alignment with the mouth of a patient. The tube holder has a tube holding support engaged on a frame for the holder in alignment with the mouth of a patient. The support is adjustable along the frame to position the support in various locations along the frame while still in alignment with the patient's mouth. The frame is shaped to engage the chin of a patient, and is pliant in order to conform to the chin.

Slidable endotracheal tube holder

A system for holding and delivery a plurality of disposable cannula adaptors. A dispenser is provided with a dispensing surface having a series of posts or other means for retaining a plurality of disposable cannula adaptors in a spaced relationship. The posts extend upwardly, and preferably two or more adaptors can be accommodated on each post. A plurality of the dispensers can be employed in a stacked relationship, with the dispensers having the posts extending from one side thereof and one or more post retainers formed on the opposite side and in alignment with a post on the next lower dispenser. In an alternative form, the dispenser has an adhesive dispensing surface, and the cannula adaptors are applied in a spaced relationship to the adhesive surface.

A collection system for body fluids comprising, a receptacle having a collection chamber for retaining the body fluids, a first container having a supply chamber for retaining a bactericide, and a second container having a holding chamber, with the holding chamber being located above a lower portion of the collection chamber, and the supply chamber being located above a lower portion of the holding chamber. The system has a first valve member permitting the passage of bactericide from the supply chamber into the holding chamber, and a second valve member permitting the passage of the bactericide from the holding chamber into the collection chamber.

A liquid collection system for collecting and discharging urine from a catheterized patient. A collection bag receives urine through the catheter, and has a drain system therein, which comprises a valve having a bactericide element over which the urine must flow as it is being drained from the bag. The bactericide element is held in an openable cage, so as to permit replacement of the bactericide element as an 'as needed' basis. The bactericide disposed within the valve helps prevent retrograde contamination of the liquid collection system.

A drainage system for body fluids comprising, a receptacle having a collection chamber for retaining the body fluids, a container having a supply chamber for retaining a bactericide, and a holding chamber. The system has a first one-way valve member permitting the passage of bactericide from the supply chamber into the holding chamber, and preventing passage of the bactericide from the holding chamber into the supply chamber. The system has a second one-way valve member for permitting passage of the bactericide from the holding chamber into the collection chamber, and for preventing passage of the contents from the collection chamber into the holding chamber.

A rotary distributor seal for a rotary centrifuge which comprises a tubular housing having sealed ends, a relatively rotatable fluid conveying apertured spindle coaxially mounted in the housing, and several resilient, spaced ring seals positioned about the spindle to seal the annular space between the spindle and the housing, and to subdivide it into several annular chambers. Ports communicate with the chambers to provide fluid flow from the ports through the separate chambers and through the spindle. In accordance with this invention, support members are positioned in alternate, spaced chambers between pairs of ring seals to prevent collapse of the ring seal pairs together.

Rotary seal distributor member for a centrifuge

A needle cover for a blood collection needle or the like comprises a first sleeve positioned about a pointed hypodermic needle. The first sleeve is removably carried by a hub, which also carries the needle. In accordance with this invention an inner sleeve is provided, positioned within the first sleeve and about the point of the needle. The inner sleeve is free of mechanical attachment to the first sleeve so that, upon rotation of the outer sleeve for its removal from the hub, the inner sleeve does not rotate with the first sleeve. Accordingly, the danger of the pointed needle scouring out and retaining bits of plastic from the sleeve is eliminated.
