A method and system are disclosed for adaptive channel adjustments in a satellite communication system. The maximum bandwidth for a traffic carrier used for user communication in a satellite communication system is determined during changing conditions. The maximum bandwidth is then compared to a predetermined bandwidth allocated for the traffic carrier. New transmit parameters are selected to adjust the traffic carrier bandwidth within the allocated bandwidth in order to improve capacity. All transmitters and receivers within the system are subsequently reconfigured to transmit and receive the traffic carrier using the new transmit parameters.

Adaptive channel symbol rate in a satellite system

A method is provided for interleaving frequency reuse plans of multiple satellites to form an aggregate frequency reuse cell plan. A first plurality of spot beams is generated by a first satellite for a first frequency reuse plan based on radio frequency (RF) spectrum bands. A second plurality of spot beams is generated by a second satellite for a second frequency reuse plan based on the RF spectrum bands. The first and second plurality of spot beams are interleaved to generate an aggregate frequency reuse cell plan. According to the aggregate frequency reuse plan, each of a first plurality of cells is covered by a combination of at least two of the plurality of spot beams of the first satellite, and each of a first plurality of cells is covered by a combination of at least two of the plurality of spot beams of the second satellite.

Approaches for achieving improved capacity plans for a satellite communications system via interleaved beams from multiple satellites

An RF communications transmitter system comprising a processor, a switch and a plurality of feedhorns. The switch is configured to receive a feed signal of a frequency bandwidth. The processor is configured to control the switch to provide the feed signal to each of at least two of the feedhorns for a respective time period. Each of the at least two feedhorns is configured to generate a beam during the respective time period that the feed signal is provided thereto, wherein the beam is formed based on the feed signal and is transmitted to cover a geographic area of the Earth. The formation and transmission of the beams by the feedhorns is controlled by the processor to provide a time-based allocation of bandwidth amongst the beams based on the time period that the feed signal is provided to each of the feedhorns and a respective frequency/polarization reuse scheme.

Approaches for improved frequency reuse efficiency and interference avoidance for a multi-beam satellite communications network

Approaches for wireless telecommunications systems (e.g., satellite systems), that employ beams that move in a pattern to increase the coverage area of the beams, are provided. A wireless telecommunications apparatus comprises an antenna configured to generate communications beams for providing data communications services over a respective coverage area on the surface of the Earth. The apparatus further comprises a processor configured to control each of at least one of the communications beams to move its coverage area in a respective pattern over a respective period of time. Further, a method comprises generating, via a wireless telecommunications apparatus, communications beams, wherein each beam provides data communications services over a respective coverage area on the surface of the Earth, and controlling each of at least one of the communications beams to move its coverage area in a respective pattern of movement over a respective period of time.

Approaches for increasing coverage-area of spot beams in a wireless communications system

A triple use satellite system includes a VSAT population including a VSAT, and a satellite including a broadcast beam for a broadcast service and spot beams for a broadband service, where each of the spot beams provides broadband service to VSATs in separate coverage areas in a geographic region and the broadcast beam provides a broadcast service to the VSAT population in the geographic region.

A system for a multiplexing scheme for wideband signals in a communications system is provided. A codeblock of a multiplexed datastream is decoded. The codeblock includes a flag indicating whether the codeblock contains a timeplan, signifying a multiplexing structure of the datastream. A determination is made whether the flag indicates the presence of the timeplan, and, if so, the timeplan is acquired. In response to a determination that the codeblock does not contain the timeplan, a subsequent codeblock is determined, and decoded. Each codeblock includes an indicator of a sequence position of the codeblock within a group of codeblocks of the datastream. The subsequent codeblock is determined based on one or more of a decode rate of the processor device and the sequence position indicator. A determination is made whether the flag of the subsequent codeblock indicates the presence of the timeplan, and, if so, the timeplan is acquired.
