A system and method intelligently mines information and briefs an aircrew on conditions outside the aircraft. A mission information manager proactively mines incoming data sources, filters for relevance to current flight, retrieves the most up-to-date information, dynamically selects an appropriate format based on perceptual/cognitive affordances of content, and presents integrated, intuitive data that allows the flight crew to rapidly acquire relevant awareness of conditions outside the aircraft. An expert mission model system reviews incoming information for any situations that are of immediate mission concern. The system presents this information to the flight crew's attention while they have the greatest operational flexibility. Additionally, a human factors module provides decision aiding for select critical phases while taking into account information both outside and inside the aircraft.

System and method for intelligently mining information and briefing an aircrew on conditions outside the aircraft

A system method for providing aircraft lateral navigation system capability feedback to a pilot includes determining, in a processor, when a flight plan has been received that includes a flight leg that needs to be captured by the aircraft. A determination is made, in the processor, when an armed signal has been received, where the armed signal indicating that an aircraft autopilot navigation mode (NAV) has been armed. The processor is used to command a display device to render the flight leg using a first display paradigm when the armed signal has not been received, and to render the flight leg using a second display paradigm when the armed signal has been received.

The system and method receives aircraft status data, pilot input data, data link notification data and aircraft notification data. The system and method generates and displays a timescale region divided into equal intervals from a predetermined origin with an icon graphically representative of a position of the aircraft overlaid with an icon graphically representative of notification data. The system and method continuously updates the temporal data as the aircraft flies, and responds to user requests to pan forward in time, pan backward in time and adjust the zoom on the timescale.

Systems and methods for improving the reception and delivery of an In-Trail Procedures (ITP) altitude change request. An example system located on board a host aircraft includes a communication component, a display device and a processor unit that is in signal communication with the communication component and the display device. The processor unit presents a user interface on the display device. The user interface includes a plurality of fields for receiving In-Trail Procedures (ITP) altitude change request information. The processor sends the ITP altitude change request information received within the plurality of fields to an Air Traffic Control (ATC) facility via the communication component. An ITP unit having a display receives an altitude selection and presents ITP altitude change request information if the received altitude selection is determined to be valid.

Systems and methods for improving an in-trail procedures request

A system and method is disclosed for displaying a procedure to an aircrew member of an aircraft. The system includes, but is not limited to, a moving map display, a position detecting unit, a flight management system, an electronic storage unit for storing navigation procedures associated with geographic locations, and a processor coupled with the moving map display, the position detecting unit, the flight management system, and the electronic storage unit. The processor is configured to receive a current location of the aircraft from the position determining unit and a flight path from the flight management system, to retrieve a navigation procedure from the electronic storage unit corresponding to the current location and the flight path of the aircraft, and to command the moving map display to display a graphic depiction of the flight path.

System and method for displaying a procedure to an aircrew member

A system and method are provided for highlighting and selecting one of a plurality of graphical IFR procedure depiction on an aircraft display. A displayed legend includes a plurality of textual procedure identifications, one each for each of the graphical IFR procedure depictions. Movement of a cursor over either a graphical IFR procedure depiction or a textual procedure identification highlights both, and selection thereof removes all other graphical IFR procedure depictions and textual procedure identifications from being displayed.

Methods and systems are provided for providing procedure information associated with an aircraft procedure onboard an aircraft. An exemplary method involves obtaining a briefing sequence for the aircraft procedure and providing the procedure information via the output device, wherein the procedure information is provided in accordance with the briefing sequence. When the output device is realized as an audio output device, the procedure information is sequentially provided auditorily via the audio output device. Provided are methods and systems for the disambiguation of an in trail procedure (ITP) vertical display by calculating and rendering symbology on a plan view traffic collision avoidance system (TCAS) display. The symbology represents an intersection point between the ground track of an ITP aircraft and the ground track of a blocking aircraft and further represents an association between the intersection point and the respective ITP blocking aircraft.
