A system for generating resonance mode information associated with a servo track writer system comprising a drive VCM, a drive arm assembly, an external VCM, an external arm assembly, and a mechanical connection between the external arm assembly and the drive arm assembly. The system of the present invention comprises a controller, a position sensor, and a processor. The controller is adapted to apply an injection signal to the drive VCM such that the injection signal causes movement of the external arm assembly through the drive arm assembly and the pushpin. The position sensor is configured to generate an output signal indicative of a position of the external arm assembly. The processor generates the resonance mode information based on the injection signal and the output signal.

In accordance with various embodiments, a rotatable member is mounted to a spindle hub so that initial servo data previously provided to the rotatable member are eccentrically offset with respect to a rotational center of the spindle hub. Compensation vales are determined to characterize said offset, after which final servo data are provided to the rotatable member in relation to the initial servo data and the determined compensation values. The final servo data are nominally concentric with the rotational center of the spindle hub.

Methods and apparatuses for writing spiral servo patterns on a disk surface are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method is provided to write servo information onto a disk surface in spiral patterns in a non-sequential manner. In another embodiment, a thermal warm-up regimen is performed prior to writing spiral patterns onto the disk surface. In another embodiment, a reference track is used to position a write head when writing spiral patterns onto the disk surface. By using one or more of the above embodiments, the affects of thermal and/or mechanical changes may be reduced when writing spiral patterns.
