The present disclosure provides processes for producing images with toner particles. In embodiments, toner particles of a certain diameter in size are applied to a substrate as an incomplete monolayer, and then fused to form an image that is a complete monolayer and possesses a thickness less than the diameter of the particles utilized to form the image.

Imaging processes

The instant disclosure describes methacrylate coated carrier resins with hydrophobic substituents for charge control and improved RH sensitivity.

Negative charge carrier resins with RH sensitivity

The present disclosure provides processes for producing toners by emulsion aggregation where the resulting toner particles have high pigment loadings and desired circularity. The methods include adding a metal, in embodiments a metal salt, at the beginning of coalescence, which surprisingly speeds the coalescence process and produces toner particles having a desired size and circularity for use in electrophotographic imaging systems.

Toner compositions

An ink comprising a first reactive latex having a first crosslinkable functional group and a second reactive latex a second crosslinkable functional group, wherein the first reactive latex can react with the second reactive latex to form a cross-linked polymer matrix when in contact with each other, wherein the first reactive latex and the second reactive latex are not in contact with each other, which is suitable for use in an indirect printing method, and a method of printing using the ink.

Surface layer

The disclosure provides a curable ink including a bis-urea gelator having the structure of Formula I. wherein R and R' each, independently of the other, is a saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon group selected from the group consisting of (1) linear aliphatic groups, (2) branched aliphatic groups, (3) cyclic aliphatic groups, (4) aliphatic groups containing both cyclic and acyclic portions, any carbon atom of the saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon group may be optionally substituted with an alkyl group (cyclic or acyclic), wherein (1) and (2) groups have a carbon number of from about 1 to about 22 carbons, and wherein (3) and (4) groups have a carbon number of from about 4 to about 10 carbons; and X is selected from the group consisting of: (i) an alkylene group, (ii) an arylene group, (iii) an arylalkylene group, and (iv) an alkylarylene group.

Curable inks comprising bis-urea gelators

An aqueous ink for indirect printing applications including water; a co-solvent; a colorant; and a polymer latex comprising an aqueous dispersion of polymer particles wherein the polymer latex has a softening temperature of from about 60&#xb0; C. to less than 105&#xb0; C. and a glass transition temperature of from about 45&#xb0; C. to about 100 C.

Ink jet ink for indirect printing applications

An aqueous inkjet ink includes a latex having a bimodal molecular weight distribution. A method of making an aqueous inkjet ink includes adding a dispersion of surfactant and carbon black to a reactor, adding a latex having a bimodal molecular weight to the reactor resulting in a reaction mixture, and homogenizing the reaction mixture, forming the ink. A method of printing an image to a substrate includes applying an aqueous inkjet ink onto an intermediate receiving member using an inkjet printhead, spreading the ink onto the intermediate receiving member, inducing a property change of the ink, and transferring the ink to a substrate, wherein the ink includes a latex having a bimodal weight distribution.

A method for preparing a pigment dispersion includes milling a starting pigment dispersion containing a pigment and optionally a carrier and a dispersant with milling media having an average particle size of about 100 &#x3bc;m or less, until a final pigment dispersion having at least one of a desired pigment average particle size and a desired pigment particle size distribution is obtained; optionally separating the milling media from the final pigment dispersion; and optionally diluting the final pigment dispersion to obtain a desired pigment particle concentration.

Preparation of pigment dispersions and toner compositions

Processes for producing toners are provided. The processes include determining the desired gloss for a given toner, and determining the desired amount of aluminum in the toner to obtain that gloss. Utilizing the processes of the present disclosure, the solids content of an emulsion utilized to produce such a toner, as well as the mixing speed utilized in the aggregation process and the temperature at which aggregation of the toner particles occurs, may then be selected to obtain toner particles possessing the desired amount of aluminum, and thus the desired gloss.

Toner compositions and processes

A solid ink composition suitable for ink jet printing, including printing on coated paper substrates. In embodiments, the solid ink composition comprises both a crystalline compound and an amorphous compound, and optionally, in combination, an organic pigment, which provides for a robust, rapid crystallization ink composition.
