A system and method for collecting whole blood from blood donors includes first and second whole blood collection devices disposed at different blood donation centers. A remote server computer is in communication with the blood collection devices. The whole blood collection devices transfer donation procedure information to the remote server. The remote server computer facilitates retrieval of the donation procedure information at a handheld computing device. The donation procedure information includes data based on product volume collected and data indicating performance of operators of the whole blood collection devices. The handheld computing device displays a number of whole blood units collected. Blood collection can be improved using the donation procedure information.

System and method for collecting whole blood from blood donors

Certain examples provide systems, methods, and apparatus to provide information regarding blood collection instruments via a mobile device. An example method for blood collection instrument management includes providing a graphical representation of one or more blood collection instruments with a visual indication of a status for each instrument. The graphical representation is to visually convey information regarding each of the one or more blood collection instruments and is selectable by a user to provide additional information regarding each of the one or more blood collection instruments. The method includes facilitating access to troubleshoot and interact with the one or more blood collection instruments via the mobile device. The method includes dynamically updating the status for each instrument via communication between the mobile device and one or more blood collection facilities at which the one or more blood collection instruments are located.

The present disclosure relates to arrangements for attaching an RFID tag to a liquid container, and particularly to a blood components container. The RFID tag may be inserted in an enclosure, such as peel tab, or in a sealed cup attached to a container port. The tag could alternately be embedded in a molded plug or component attached to a port. The RFID antenna could be painted or stamped on the surface of the container. Or the tag could be inserted into the container to float freely in the liquid components. The RFID source may be secured around the neck of a rigid or semi-rigid container, attached with a tether or attached to a connector assembled in association with a blood component or other fluid flow path.

Systems and methods are provided for separating a red blood cell-containing fluid into separated red blood cells and another fluid constituent. A suitable system includes a disposable fluid flow circuit and a durable, reusable separation system, with the circuit being mounted onto or otherwise associated with the separation system. The circuit includes a membrane separator for separating the fluid into its constituent parts, as well as a leukoreduction filter. The leukoreduction filter may be used before or after the red blood cell-containing fluid has been passed into the membrane separator. The red blood cell-containing fluid (if the leukoreduction filter is positioned upstream of the membrane separator) or the separated red blood cells (if the leukoreduction filter is positioned downstream of the membrane separator) may also be passed through a microaggregate filter prior to passing through the leukoreduction filter.

A medical solution packaging assembly comprising a medical solution container that houses a medical solution comprising a semi-permeable material including one or more surface that is at least partially permeable to air molecules and has low permeability to vapor molecules of the medical solution, wherein the medical solution container is configured to inflate beyond its original volume. The assembly further comprising a packaging comprising one or more surface within which the solution container resides; a compressing mechanism configured to apply external force onto at least one surface of the medical solution container or limit the volume to which the medical solution container inflates, wherein a volume of air ingress from an external environment of the medical solution container is less than that which would occur without the compressing mechanism.

A method is provided for making a tubing, which includes forming a generally tubular inner layer by flowing a first material through an extrusion assembly. At least one non-tubular segment is formed along the length of the tubing by flowing a second material through the extrusion assembly. A generally tubular outer layer coaxial with the inner layer is formed by flowing a third material through the extrusion assembly. The segment is positioned between the inner and outer layers and oriented non-tangentially with an interface between the inner and outer layers. The resulting tubing, which may be suitable for medical applications, may have kink-resistant properties.

Certain examples provide a system for platelet resuspension training. The system includes an interactive training application, provided via a mobile device, to train a user to resuspend platelets in a liquid medium prior to its storage and/or transfusion to a patient. The training application is to instruct the user regarding an appropriate motion and vigor for resuspension of platelets in a blood container associated with a blood processing instrument. The system includes a sensor to detect the user's motion of the mobile device. The system includes a processor to compare the user's motion of the mobile device to the appropriate motion and vigor for resuspension of platelets in a blood container and provide feedback to the user regarding the comparison.

A method of making a blood filter assembly provides first and second filter housing elements from a flexible thermoplastic material, each of the first and second housing elements including a molded port. The method places a filter media between the first and second filter housing elements and applies radio frequency heating and pressure to form a peripheral seal that joins the first and second filter housing elements to the filter media and encapsulates the filter media between the first and second housing elements.

A fluid filter assembly for filtering fluids such as blood is described. The assembly includes first and second filter housing elements formed by an injection molding process. Each element is flexible and includes a peripheral flange formed thereabout and a fluid communicating port formed therein. Filter media, such as a filter membrane, is sealed between the mating flanges of two elements. The fluid filter assembly is capable of collapsing and expanding during the filtration process depending upon the composition of the fluid passed there through. A method for making the filter assembly and systems for using the filter assembly are also disclosed.
