An all-wheel drive system for a vehicle having a longitudinal axis includes an electric motor. The electric motor has an output shaft that extends along a first axis, and the first axis is substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis. The all-wheel drive system includes a first drive system including a first clutch and a first differential system configured to be coupled to a second drive system and to transfer torque to first wheels of the vehicle in a first state of the first clutch. The second drive system includes a second drive shaft and a second differential system. The second drive shaft is coupled to the output shaft and configured to transfer the torque to the second differential system. The second differential system is configured to transfer torque to second wheels of the vehicle, and the second differential system extends along a second axis substantially parallel to the first axis.

All-wheel drive system for electric vehicle

A transmission system has a housing including a wall and a gear support extending from the wall. The gear support has an outer surface and an inner surface defining a passage. The outer surface includes a seal receiving portion and a seal support axially spaced from the seal receiving portion. A seal is positioned about the gear support at the seal receiving portion. A sleeve is arranged on the outer surface of the gear support between the wall and the seal and a pump drive gear is mounted on the gear support and is supported by the sleeve. The pump drive gear includes an outer toothed surface, an inner surface, and a bushing arranged on the inner surface, the bushing extending about the sleeve.

Pump drive architecture for an automatic transmission

A transfer case pump includes an oil pump, a cover assembly, and a torque transfer mechanism. The oil pump has a pump shaft, and is configured to pressurize a lubricant in response to a rotation of the pump shaft. The pump shaft rotates around a pump axis. The pump axis is parallel to a rear axis of a rear shaft. The pump axis is offset from the rear axis. The cover assembly has a channel configured to transfer the lubricant from the oil pump to the rear shaft. The cover assembly extends around the rear shaft and around the pump shaft. The torque transfer mechanism is configured to transfer a torque from the rear shaft to the pump shaft.

Transfer case off-axis pump

A drive torque transfer case is provided. The transfer case includes an input shaft, an output shaft, a gear assembly coupled to the input shaft, and a range clutch assembly coupled to the output shaft. The range clutch assembly includes a clutch member and a multi-piston actuator configured to receive a pressurized transmission fluid for selectively axially translating the clutch member to engage a component of the gear assembly for transmitting a drive torque from the input shaft to the output shaft. The multi-piston actuator includes an internal piston having a first annular surface area Aand a third annular surface area A, and an external piston having a second annular surface area Aand a fourth annular surface area A. The Aand Aare in hydraulic communication with a first hydraulic chamber, and Aand Aare in hydraulic communication with a second hydraulic chamber.

An electric motor rotor for a motor vehicle includes a rotor assembly having a first portion formed from a first material, a second portion formed from a second material coupled to the first portion, and a third portion formed from a third material coupled to one of the first portion and the second portion. At least one of the first material and the third material is distinct from the second material.

Hybrid rotor assembly for a motor vehicle

An automatic transmission includes a transmission housing having a sump portion, a main transmission fluid pump arranged at the sump portion, and a recess having a fluid return passage. A torque converter mounted in the recess and a scavenging pump arranged in the sump portion and fluidically connected to the fluid return passage.

A friction clutch assembly for an automatic transmission is provided. The friction clutch assembly is configured to move between an applied position and a released or disengaged position. A plurality of clutch plates may include friction plates and interleaved reaction plates, plus an apply plate and a backing plate. A separator feature is disposed adjacent to at least one of the reaction plates, the friction plates, the apply plate, and the backing plate. At least one of the reaction plates, the friction plates, the apply plate, and the backing plate defines a passage configured to allow fluid to flow through the friction clutch assembly and around the separator feature.

A transmission sealed low leak controls system includes a controls system having a first fluid for operation of the controls system provided by a first pump at a first pressure. A transmission input shaft is provided. A planetary gear set is connected to the transmission input shaft by a clutch assembly. A second pump provides a second fluid different from the first fluid for cooling and lubrication of the at least one clutch assembly at a second pressure lower than the first pressure. A torque converter is connected to the transmission input shaft. The second pump further provides the second fluid to the torque converter.

Sealed low leak controls system in an automatic transmission

A torque transferring transmission-drive system includes a first friction surface. A second friction surface is directed toward the first friction surface. A reaction plate is positioned between the first friction surface and the second friction surface. A piston is actuated by a fluid pressure to displace the first friction surface toward the second friction surface, frictionally engaging the reaction plate between the first friction surface and the second friction surface. At least one strap spring in a clutch engaged condition elastically compresses to allow the reaction plate to be frictionally engaged between the first friction surface and the second friction surface, and in a clutch disengaged condition the at least one strap spring elastically expands to create a clearance between the reaction plate and each of the first friction surface and the second friction surface.

Torque transferring clutch separation

Presented are engine disconnect clutches, methods for making/using such clutch devices, and vehicles with an engine that is coupled to/decoupled from a transmission and motor via a disconnect clutch. A vehicle includes a transmission with an input shaft connected with a transmission gearing arrangement, and an output shaft connecting the gearing arrangement with the vehicle's wheels. A torque converter pump housing drivingly connects to the vehicle's traction motor. A turbine is mounted inside the pump housing in fluid communication with an impeller. A turbine shaft connects the turbine to the transmission's input shaft. A clutch hub of a disconnect clutch drivingly connects to the vehicle's engine and selectively attaches to the pump housing. The disconnect clutch selectively connects the engine to the motor and transmission by drawing oil from the transmission's oil sump, through a turbine shaft channel and a pump housing port, and into a clutch hub cavity.

Engine disconnect clutches having torque converter feed-through activation for vehicle powertrains

A passive opening transmission clutch system includes a backing plate having multiple tab slots, each of the tab slots having a tapered wall. A first reaction plate has multiple first tapered spline teeth oriented transverse to a plane of the first reaction plate. The first tapered spline teeth are positioned at least partially in individual ones of the tab slots in a clutch disengaged condition. The first tapered spline teeth when displaced further into the tab slots and toward the backing plate define a clutch engaged condition. A first friction plate is in frictional contact with the first reaction plate in the clutch engaged condition, the first friction plate when rotated generating a rotational force on the first reaction plate. The rotational force acts against the first tapered spline teeth to induce the first reaction plate to slidably move away from the backing plate.

Passive opening low loss clutch pack

A motor vehicle planetary axis transfer gearbox system includes a connective housing connecting an engine to a transmission of a motor vehicle with the transmission being positioned forward of the engine. An axis of an engine output shaft is oriented substantially parallel to an axis of a transmission input shaft. Both the axis of the engine output shaft and the axis of the transmission input shaft are oriented substantially perpendicular to a central axis of the motor vehicle. A planetary gear set is connected to one of the engine output shaft or the transmission input shaft acting to reverse a direction of rotation of either the engine output shaft or the transmission input shaft to match a direction of rotation of both the engine output shaft and the transmission input shaft. A drive chain connects the engine output shaft to the transmission input shaft.

Planetary axis transfer gearbox

A vehicle powertrain includes a manual transmission with an input shaft including a plurality of input gears and at least one main shaft including a plurality of driven gears engaged with the input gears. An engine includes a drive shaft drivingly connected to the input shaft via an engine disconnect clutch and a launch clutch. An electric motor is non-concentric with the input shaft and is drivingly connected to the input shaft via the launch clutch.

Hybrid manual transmission

An automatically-shiftable transaxle includes an input member configured to receive an external power-source torque and rotate about a first axis. The transaxle also includes torque transmitting device(s) and a gear-train, each operatively connected to the input member for selecting transaxle speed ratios, and a first transfer gear operatively connected to the gear-train and rotatable about the first axis. The transaxle also includes an intermediate shaft rotatable about a second axis, and a second transfer gear rotatably fixed to the intermediate shaft and meshed with the first transfer gear. The transaxle additionally includes an electric motor arranged on a third axis for providing a torque input to the second transfer gear. Furthermore, the transaxle includes a differential assembly operatively connected to the intermediate shaft and rotatable about a fourth axis to thereby transmit a transaxle output torque to drive the load. All four transaxle rotational axes are arranged in parallel.

Automatically-shiftable hybrid transaxle

A transmission is connectable to an input member and includes an output transfer gear, first and second transmission input shaft members, first and second countershaft members, a plurality of co-planar gear sets, and a plurality of torque transmitting devices. The torque transmitting devices include a plurality of synchronizer assemblies and a dual clutch assembly. The transmission is operable to provide at least one reverse speed ratio and a plurality of forward speed ratios between the input member and the output member.
