A wake from OFF state system is described that enhances power adapters and battery chargers that have been shut completely off in efforts to conserve energy. Wake from OFF state devices may be used to automate the otherwise tedious process of turning on a power switch. A wake from OFF state device is distinguished from a wake from sleep state device which continues to consume some amount of power to operate in a standby mode. A wake from OFF state power adapter can be turned fully off and left off indefinitely. There are no active standby circuits, no power consumption, no active logic, no emissions, no heat, when the device is in this OFF state. Wake from OFF state is useful for a variety of devices including (but not limited to) smartphones, portable computers, power tools, electric vehicles, and rechargeable batteries.

A video display device having an automatic input switching capability includes at least one input connector coupled to the video display device for accepting an external video signal, sensing means coupled to the at least one input connector for detecting the presence of the external video signal; control means coupled to the sensing means and video circuitry of the video display device, wherein the control means controls the operation of the video display device when a new video signal is sensed by the sensing means.

Television with automatic input switching

A digital display panel accepts pixel information according to their row-column coordinates. Each pixel can be individually written and read back, much like a random access memory (RAM). A pixel array self-refreshes, and can retain and display each image frame long after the original writing, like a dynamic random access memory (DRAM). Each pixel is instrumented with a transducer to sense pressure, temperature, light, strain, etc., and provide sensor read-out data that is addressable by row-column coordinates. Such is very useful in touchscreen applications. The transducers and their corresponding pixels each have a special relationship, the transducers can directly manipulate a visual quality of the pixel through a direct connection, without intervention or assistance by a host processor.

Random access display monitor

Electronic messages with electronic attachments sent by a device over a communication network, such as the Internet or the World Wide Web, to a receiver is first stored on a server computer. The electronic attachment is opened by a computer having a program that is capable of reading the attachment. The contents of the electronic attachment are then reformatted into a second electronic message using standard protocol, such as HTML and is sent back to the receiver. Thus, the receiver will receive two electronic messages: first, the original electronic mail with the electronic attachment and a second message in which the electronic message is embedded in the message. The advantage is that a user can operate Internet appliances and/or wireless devices without the versatility of a PC and still &ldquo;read&rdquo; the electronic attachments to the email as well as retaining the original email with the original attachment for processing by a PC.

Computer monitor

A video signal controller is used with a dual sync monitor of a digital computer. The video signal controller has a tuner to generate conventional television signals. The signals from the tuner and from the computer are supplied to a multiplexer which switches between them and supplies the output signal to a dual sync monitor. The controller has three modes of operation. In a first mode, conventional television signals are displayed on the dual sync monitor. In a second mode, conventional computer signals are displayed on the dual sync monitor. Finally, in a third mode, multi video signals may be displayed to achieve, for example, picture-in-picture for display on the monitor. Finally, a method of processing the television signals for picture-in-picture display which greatly reduces the overhead required by the CPU is also disclosed.
