An apparatus for measuring forces in connective tissue employs a single sensor receiving a shear wave, band-limited, wavelet signal from an actuator and processing it to determine a delay for the determination of shear wave speed and related tension or force. Delay may be a combined analysis of a group delay of the wavelet and a phase delay of the wavelet.

Axial stress or similar properties in a stressed tendon or ligament are measured by mechanical excitation of a shear wave in the tendon or ligament measured using ultrasonic displacement techniques at least two different longitudinal positions to derive a shear wave propagation speed. This shear wave propagation speed may be equated to an axial stress on the tissue using a model. Rapidly repeated measurements allow dynamic axial stress measurements to be obtained for clinical study.

Systems and methods for segmenting a medical image are provided. In some embodiments, the method includes receiving an image acquired from at least a portion of a subject's anatomy, selecting a first point within a target structure identified on the image, and determining a second and a third point associated with extents of a target biological tissue, the first, second and third points defining a sector described by the first point, a central angle and a subtended arc. The method also includes determining a plurality of arc points along the subtended arc, and extending a plurality of linear segments along directions determined by the first point and the plurality of arc points. The method further includes determining an intensity profile along each linear segment to identify boundaries of the target biological tissue, and generating a contour of the target biological tissue using the identified boundaries.

Systems and methods for semi-automated segmentation of medical images

A system, a method and a computer readable medium are provided for simulating a combined musculoskeletal and augmentation device system. The dynamics model of the combined musculoskeletal and augmentation device system receives computed torques at the joints as inputs and delivers simulated kinematic data of the segments as outputs. The augmentation device controller for control of the augmentation device, receives the simulated kinematic data as inputs and delivers assist torques as outputs. The inverse dynamics model for the musculoskeletal and augmentation device system, receives the simulated kinematic data, desired kinematic data of the segments and the assit torques as inputs and delivers the computed net joint torque and muscle torque. The muscle force and muscle capacity module for checking and adjusting the computed torques, receives the computed torques as inputs and delivers computed torques as outputs after the checking and adjustment.
